Mixing switch types?
I'm curious to hear what experiences people have had with mixing switch types on a single keyboard. For example, using clears for the alphanumeric keys and blacks for the modifiers (or any other combination)? I really like clears for typing text, but I feel like the modifiers and space bar should be...

The stabilizer thing is weird. I found a couple threads that reference the offset from the top of the switch hole to the top of the stabilizer hole as 0.03in or 0.75mm, which is how I designed the plate; however, they were uniformly off (the stabilizer insert stems were slightly more towards the bot...

Thank you!
Just wanted to thank the community for creating such an informative and helpful resource. I recently completed a custom keyboard which I actually like better than my previous commercial one, and most of the information I got about how to build such a thing came from this forum. http://imgur.com/a/OE...

Group Ordering from Big Blue Saw
Just saw this post, and thought someone on this forum might be interested:

I ordered a custom stainless steel plate from them, and they did a very good job on it -- all the switches fit without any filing.

Re: the case, the design I've sorta settled on for my project is very much like a picture frame. My dad used to do cabinetry and other woodworking and suggested the design: case2.png This would be cut on a table saw as a single, long piece which is then cut into four pieces on a miter saw to frame t...

I use a mac, and I use emacs a lot, so for me it seems like it could be a big improvement. I'm always hitting key combos like Ctrl+Alt+something or Cmd+Alt+something (Cmd-Alt-Shift-V is one I'm particularly frustrated with these days), and emacs has many key combos that I can't take advantage of due...

The layout editor is pretty cool! I was actually planning to write such a tool if it did not already exist.

Plate layout advice
I'm trying to build a custom keyboard, and at this point I've got a layout I like and a DWG for the plate. I'm using costar (or costar-style) stabilizers, since I have some and I have no idea how to obtain cherry stabilizers. People who have done this before: any advice on the layout of the holes? I...
