Has anyone tried to use this with a KVM switch? My keyboard works great when plugged into my laptop, but with the KVM (a C2G two-port model) it doesn't seem to be recognized. I followed this tutorial to set it up.

Just wanted to thank the community for creating such an informative and helpful resource. I recently completed a custom keyboard which I actually like better than my previous commercial one, and most of the information I got about how to build such a thing came from this forum.

I ordered a custom stainless steel plate from them, and they did a very good job on it -- all the switches fit without any filing.

Re: the case, the design I've sorta settled on for my project is very much like a picture frame. My dad used to do cabinetry and other woodworking and suggested the design:

Wow, I'm in love with the bank of keys between the alphas and the circular (!!) trackpad. Now I'm thinking about what it would be like to have an auxiliary keyboard with function keys tailored to Emacs (mark, yank, transpose, advance char/word/line/paragraph, etc.).

@elmin : how much days you waited aprox.? I wonder how much time will take to receive my sample set, apparently it should have shipped yesterday ( invoice #0573 ), we are waiting it for test different keys and decide which keys to use in our future ergodox's :)

Received my switches today, thanks! Only a few more components and I can build my keyboard!

Random idea on the "modular" side... what about using layers to combine functions on the numpad? Something like this:
You could use Fn, Nav or Num Lock to sticky-select a layer or you could have a dominant one (set by a hardware switch?) and use the others via chording.

Classic... the price drop finally spurred me to order, but I don't think I got a single thing that was discounted. Oh well, I'm still excited for these caps!

I use a mac, and I use emacs a lot, so for me it seems like it could be a big improvement. I'm always hitting key combos like Ctrl+Alt+something or Cmd+Alt+something (Cmd-Alt-Shift-V is one I'm particularly frustrated with these days), and emacs has many key combos that I can't take advantage of due ...

Thanks for the recommendations. Now I'm even thinking about doing a prototype in cardboard or something once I get the switches. Then I can even get an idea if the stabilizers are positioned correctly.

I'm trying to build a custom keyboard, and at this point I've got a layout I like and a DWG for the plate. I'm using costar (or costar-style) stabilizers, since I have some and I have no idea how to obtain cherry stabilizers.

People who have done this before: any advice on the layout of the holes ...

I hate to ask, because obviously you have a lot of questions about this sort of thing, but then again I can't really figure it out based on what the bot is telling me...
