- Topic: Alternative Layouts for HHKB. Does Anyone use Colemak or Dvorak on HHK
- Replies: 3

I'd say the same. The HHKB essentially is a normal "standard" keyboard (albeit a small one). So typing in whatever layout, like QWERTY or Dvorak, is just like typing in that layout on a bigger keyboard. I myself prefer Dvorak-like layouts over Qwerty or a 'better Qwerty' such as Colemak. I also like...

I assume you're talking MX Cherry type keycaps? - You might specify what sort (DSA, SA, DCS) and what Rows you are looking for. - the easiest thing would be to use standard keycaps (60% / 75% / 100%, possibly even Ergodox) keycaps. For the middle keys you'll have to find some other solution. - keys ...

Why I'm Learning To Type All Over Again And why you should too
Learning a new keyboard layout is an alpha-nerd pursuit. I came across a nice article in Popular Mechanics . It's about the Colemak layout, but it's interesting for non-Colemak user (such as me, I use an AdNW version). I don't agree with a lot of it, but find it funny nonetheless. Some fun quotes: Y...

OK. I followed @davkol's suggestion. Tried to squeeze the NEC M-Type into a 60% form factor. Yes there were casualties  This is what it looks like - remember much of the damage comes from the 60% form factor.... https://i.imgur.com/fm3zDUC.png Constraints & considerations: - must fit in 60% f...

@davkol - thnx for the link. Those Japanse M-Type keyboards are great ! I've been thinking about a keyboard like this for some time. Meaning: thinking about it, and then forgetting it for a year  Maybe it's time to really build it. Here some slightly different versions: https://i.imgur.com/910w...

Thoughts on my keyboard layout idea?
http://i.imgur.com/gPJ2DiE.png Please tell me if this layout can be improved! I wanted: - symmetrical stagger - fitting in a 60% case - no stabs, meaning no keys bigger than 1.75 units - no vertical keys -> freedom to play with different profiles - navigation keys - lots of thumb keys - Shift (as t...

Czarek: yes, many promising keyboards take a very long time to materialize..... If at all. Like the Axios , or the Unicomp Space Saver Keyboard ...... Fortunately, I have some nice options already: the GH60 and the Pok3r (might be good enough). Edit: also, adding Alpsmount to the GH60 would be great...

As per request :D my goals and thoughts with this keyboard. Grab a cup of coffee or glass of beer, I need some time :ugeek: * I use both Qwerty and my custom layout (an AdNW-version, think 'Dvorak-like'). * I use computers at home (Linux) and at work (Windows). Being a univ. teacher, I have a "perso...

Fully programmable 60% keyboards?
Hi, I'm looking for a 60% that is programmable. I only know of the HHKB (with a retrofitted Teensy). The Pok3r is programmable but not fully, I do not know how easy it is to put a Teensy in it. KBP V60 - same story. Background: I want to use my own custom layout and keybindings. Do I have to build m...

Complicated question. As @davkol said, the standard typing technique is to type the Z with the pinky. An alternative (which I also use) is to type the Z with the ring finger. Like this: http://www.onehandkeyboard.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Z_with_ring.png This is - I feel - better on a standard ...

I have no personal experience, but other people say that a matrix keyboard only works if the hands are separated OR if there is enough space between the hands.

I wish I had a browser where I could throttle particular websites’ resource use. The best thing I can think of now is writing a script for your browser that (re)opens a misbehaving tab in a different (that is: external) browser, that you have throttled with niceness values. Not very elegant, I admi...

Because of the above, I wonder if a layout with modifiers in 2 columns in the center of the keyboard and the alpha-numeric on each side of the modifiers would be more useful and more comfortable to use. A while ago I made some sketches and posted them on geekhack : http://i.imgur.com/aB9mn6a.png Or...

1. Please read the many keyboardlayout discussions on colemak.com, geekhack , MTGAP , the ADNW user group and Carpalx. 2. Keyboard layouts are an exercise in compromise. Most layouts want to have - much used keys must be at easy to reach positions, the most used keys should be on the home row (or cl...
