Re: [GONE] Free parts (Vortex Poker PCB, Keebio Iris PCB+plates, Tai-Hao keycaps)
What do you have in mind for a little Poker-sized set, yourself? Actually it was the Tai Hao set I was interested in, mostly because it's ISO UK layout, which is sadly under-represented. One day I plan to build a custom keyboard with a gentle ergo curve. (The current plan is to forego the F-keys ro...

Re: ALPS SKCL keyboard first encounter binding switches
I think wax+wet lube is the current meta but just wet lube (such as white lithium) is fine as long as it feels good to you. I was about to ask whether anyone had tried the wax boil mod on space invaders (I have an otherwise very nice SI keyboard with a space bar that binds if I don't press it in *e...

Re: Unidentified clicky 80's IBM optical mouse with nonstandard connector
If you dismantle it again it might be a good idea to put a label over the EPROM window in the MCU - it'd be a shame for stray light to wipe the firmware.

Re: Great/Interesting Finds
https://www.ebay.com/itm/155570357371 Is there a way to determine if it has rubber domes or space invaders? The FCC ID is generally the best lead - the NMB RT-101 WIKI page ( https://deskthority.net/wiki/NMB_RT-100/RT-8200_series ) says "If the FCC ID contains "MEMB" or "MTN", the keyboard uses dom...

I really like it! Definitely not ugly - it's not appropriate for every desk, but it's very cool.

Re: 3.3V device with PS/2 interface
If you're powering your board through the barrel connector, one option is to use a splitter to tap +5v at that point. I presume you're using a PS/2 PMOD or suchlike, which I further presume you'd have to modify. If you do go down that route, be aware that if the keyboard you're using has pullup resi...

Re: Stuff you just bought
A couple of recent purchases here: An Oriential Tech OK-100 (not the M version) in pretty nice condition. (The WIKI page says it has ATW Alps clones, while the M version is membrane-based.) The feel and sound are quite similar to the Model M, but it's noticeably lighter in touch. I'm currently using...

Re: Matias makes a mouse
I had a PowerMac G4 back in the 90s. You pull the handle the side and it just folds down on it's hinge with the whole motherboard exposed. I've been tinkering with one of those recently (I wanted to try out MorphOS) - and I have to agree, the case design is amazing. I don't much like the look of it...

Re: Matias makes a mouse
It's one thing to have it on a $20 mouse. But on a $400 camera? The X-rite i1pro 2 spectrophotometer (which gets rebadged as the Fiery ES-2000) has it too. Those are also definitely not cheap devices. I bought a saucepan a couple of years ago which turned out to have that stuff on the handle. It wa...

Re: Matias makes a mouse
I think Matias is trying to avoid using that rubber grippy material that goes to goo in a decade. I'm convinced manufacturers started using that stuff as a deliberate ploy to reduce their items' lifespan. I'd love to know how much perfectly functional items have been thrown away because they look a...

Re: [WTB EU-DE] Tactile Switches wanted, different types possible - make an offer, pls
If your keyboard comes with blues, have you considered trying the "jailhouse blues" mod? It prevents the click jacket from moving, making the switch much quieter - the end result feels a bit like a brown without the pre-travel. (I've used dental bands on a set of Gateron optical blues and the result...

To answer your question about the "blank" keycaps, try pulling another one off with your fingers and you'll see :) Ah! I wondered why the blank caps were smaller! So... am I likely to be able to buy replacements? My guess would be: 1391406 manufactured in the United Kingdom between 1987 and 1992. T...

Help identifying an IBM Model M?
Hi :) I'm new here, and a big fan of all things retro-computing-related, including IBM Model M keyboards. I recently found what I believe to be a Model M in a charity shop - unfortunately some numpty has peeled off most of the label on the underside. I wonder if anyone would be kind enough to help m...
