What are fair prices for Cherry 81-3000's? I was buying some here and there because I wanted nicer keycaps for my Quickfire. I realised too late that some of the caps were incompatible.

I bought a Highscreen one thinking/hoping it was a doubleshot, turns out it was just a nice lasered one.

My brother in law his face lit up when i let him type on my IBM model M. He liked the sound and touch and could appreciate the "retro" aesthetic. He started wondering if any of his old relatives might have had some clickey keyboards stashed on their attics. I don't think he would use one though as h...

Ah thanks for the reply Halvar and Muirium! It makes sense, different dye sub colours would probably be too costly.

I recently got a second model M. It's a 1391401 made on 01-10-1992 in the Usa. The text (ie Home, End, PgUp etc) below the digits on the numpad have a lightbrown colour. This differs from my UK 1995 made model M, where the text on the numpad is black. Is the lightbrown colour something that is stand...

I wouldn't be so sure about that! I'm thinking of that guy that got 7 ISO dyesub boards just so that he could have a full bottom-row of 1.25U dyesub keys... Wow that's crazy but dedicated! Yes, selling it to a Belgian would be ideal. It's only fair for hard to find layout to go to someone that uses...

Hey Photekq! Yeah I would like that as well. I was just really curious to the quality of the dye sub and now I know I would like to have the Qwerty version some day! :) I was thinking maybe I could use certain parts but then it would mean i'd have to Frankenstein a board with different keycaps while...

Thanks for the reply scottc! I'll take some pics in daylight tomorrow. It was funny to see how white the keycaps still were compared to the board.

I came across a Cherry G81-3000SAB. The board itself is yellowed a bit and has a few marks I can't clean easily. Sadly, two of the arrow keys are pretty scratched up. Also the N has some dents in it and the Enter key is shiny. The rest of the keycaps are in good condition. It's my first time up clos...

Since I work from home, I don't have an excuse to buy an extra one for the office sadly. The catalyst for finding a new keyboard was when I had to build my new PC last September. Before that I was using a laptop, so I had no need for one. I had to dig up my old disgusting Acer rubber dome and ...

About the silently hoarding stuff, I already feel bad for having unused keyboards stored up. I've forced myself to do a rotation now. At the moment i'm typing on my Quickfire XT with blues and tomorrow i'll be plugging the Model M in again. I only have to rotate between 3 keyboards now though. Can't...

Thanks for your input guys, I love reading all the replies. There are so different ways to approach this hobby and I feel I haven't explored even a fraction of it. I do love the fixing up part of it. Not sure if i'll ever have the confidence for building a board up from the ground as I read about a ...

I only collect old IBM, old Cherry and custom boards. Cherry primarily. My guidelines for Cherry are : -If it has doubleshot or dye-sublimation caps and it's in good condition, consider it. -If it is very rare, consider it. -If it is NIB, consider it. I've got a bit over 20 boards now. 5/6 of which...

the only "guidelines" for buying keyboard's is that I have some idea what I would like to try out. I don't limit myself to any one switch or brand.I'm starting to place limits on myself (or at least fool myself into thinking I do) on how much I should be buying. At some point storage becomes an iss...

Keyboard collections?

I started off curious to MX switches and bought an CM XT with blue switches as my first keyboard, which I love typing on. After that I managed to get my hands on a G80-1190 with black switches. After typing on that for a while I knew linear switches weren't for me. The last board I acquired was IBM ...

@Halvar Thanks for the suggestion. I would be affraid to mess up the board by changing the innards. I'll just be looking at it for now. And yeah you have a great point about the use diminishing the board's worth. I've put it back in it's box for now. @IvanIvanovich I think you mean the GMK rep...

Hi photekq! Thanks for the speedy reply. I always enjoy reading your posts. Especially the topic on the obscure Cherry stuff! I haven't had time yet to take a photoshoot yet. Hey guys, i've been reading the forum and the wiki for the past couple of weeks and finally decided to create an account. I've bought an Olivetti KBD 2811 Keyboard. It's a G81-3000 HBU. I guess it has Cherry MY Switches, although they look a bit different. Typing is not too bad as on other G81-3000 ...
