7bit doesn't really do "quick dispatch". Maybe if you get lucky and happen to order really close to his shipping cycle!

Goodness, this has taken forever for me to finish and then write up. It's now pretty much at 99% completion - the only work left is cosmetic. That is, I think it would look cool with old-school red/white embossed labels on the switches/dials whatever.

Haha, brilliant! There's a little gap on my knob between 10 and 1, so maybe I'll add an 11 in myself.

Ah, of course. The tutorial was pretty helpful on that, but not 100%. Like I said, it depends on the model of encoder you have.

Nice to see a finished project. And not too shabby at that. I always like ammo-boxes as project boxes and the fact that you didn't need to drill into it and keep it waterproof is also nice. Totally unnecessary, but indeed kinda cool ;)

Right. This project is 95% complete now! Hooray! It's now drifted a little away from its keyboard roots, but it's still an input device, and it still has some MX clone switches in it, so I thought I'd post a sort of buildlog (thanks @Phenix for reminding me!).

All that's left to do now is:
1) drill ...

Mad Gnu Image Manipulation Program skills. Now with actual sizes, because I realise that was hard to see originally.

Both complete kits are gone, but everything in the blue box except the ISO enter and novelties are still there.

Haha, no problem. I'll add the sizes to that picture for general clarity's sake when I'm back at my pc. My 1.5 backspace/delete went on my Ergodox. But the 1.5u caps lock is still available.

scottc: The MX key is gone (someone PM'ed me immediately, and I didn't have time to update yet!). The blue 'enter' is 1.5u. The RGB kit has a number of blue Alt keys, but I'm not really willing to split the kit. I'll put you down for the 1 and 1.25u fns, though.

It does have a pushbutton! Might make one Gateron a discrete mute key, though, if the action of pushing on the volume knob is awkward.

[Edit]: By awkward, I mean that in pushing down on the knob, it's easy to accidentally twist it one notch, thus unmuting it.

Well. After a wee bit of googling, trial and error, fiddling, ordering bits and bobs off eBay, we have a working volume knob. Using the code from the tutorial linked to above, but a different circuit design, due to my encoder having debouncing circuits built in. Works well enough - next step ...

Right. Ordered a Pro Trinket and re-wired it and it's all recognised. However, turning the knob makes it jump quite randomly. Turn it clockwise and it will more or less consistently go down, turn it anticlockwise and it will hop up and down. But only every 4 or so 'clicks'. Weird...

Right. I got the easy half of this done last week - the easy half being the audio in/out switch. It was subject to a wee bit of feature creep, as it now can not only select one of two outputs, but also one of four inputs. So, I could play music at my desk without having to turn my PC on or unplug ...

Yep. All Ergodox keys are 1u, 1.5u or 2u (in the thumb clusters).

Thanks for the reply, Ray. I said Teensy simply because I happen to have a couple lying around, otherwise I would use a cheaper board.

So I guess I would copy that code and just change the names of the pins to the relevant ones on the teensy. To add extra media keys in, presumably I would copy ...

So, I take it what you are trying to do is make a keyboard with an easily swappable layout? Do you want it to look like a grid? If so, you could start by looking at Tipros - they were originally 'point of sale' keyboards, but the layout can be customised to whatever ...

Hm, random comes closest out of the available options, but it's not really random per se. It depends what letters my other fingers have been typing before the space.
