Blast! Thief!! He took my nothing!!!
True enough, I could probably quite easily guess the identity just by the address of my, um, female Santa and male Santa. (No, there's no good way of wording that!) The, uh, sender and the receiver. Anyway, there will only be a good shot at anonymity if they're in Germany and don't happen to be Kbdfr or 7bit.

I'm sure. But not from me. At least not directly. I was on the sidelines last year, not a participant.
Spoiler: I actually do know your address.

Alternatively, if you don't want the bot mailing you key cap propaganda from this day on, ORDER MORE TO IMPROVE YOUR RANKING!, we could choose someone besides the guy with an automated spam system to plug our names into random and to pair us up by addresses. It's not too late for those of you above! There is hope!

Have you ever tried to squeeze a GB or Hongkong address to fit on a German DHL shipping label?
This here feels similar.
Somehow things used to be easier in the days:
you just put slips of paper in a hat and someone pulled them at random.
Now it takes modulos and bots and whatnot

Only because we all invited this by letting 7bit take charge. We can still do it by postcards if you like. I even have several large hats…

okay, this was my first time starting private conversation with a bot.
On another note: Is it okay to ask "Hey Secret Santa, if you happen to live in the US of A, would you mind to proxy me some keyboards. I know this defeats anonymity when money gets handed over, but I don't get packeges from overseas often."
It is probably frowned upon, so I'd better not ask unless I get an okay from the powers in charge.

Yes, right, but even the conventional way, I would need some more addresses!Muirium wrote: ↑Only because we all invited this by letting 7bit take charge. We can still do it by postcards if you like. I even have several large hats…
Also, you can be lucky my original plan failed, because I had no time to either write a script to map natural numbers to permutations or get my old Group Theory library compiled.
Next year, I will do it more fancy.
BTW, if anybody has Lecture Notes in Computer Science (Springer), volume 559, available, I would be interested.

I remember my first conversation with a bot. It was way back in 1995 when I first discovered IRC. I was talking to that damn bot for 5 minutes before I realized. (I think it was an Australian bot)Ray wrote: ↑okay, this was my first time starting private conversation with a bot.
Ah, but back then bots were different - not at all like the arrogant asshole bots you see these days.

You did not meet German bots back then, so no arrogance and assholeness.mr_a500 wrote: ↑I remember my first conversation with a bot. It was way back in 1995 when I first discovered IRC.
