It's just about that time of year again. Time for inescapeable Christmas songs, tree decorating and most importantly, Secret Santa!
I'm going to do a repeat of 2014 since that worked pretty well. Rules are as follows:
1. PM me your nickname and address and I'll throw you on the list
2. DEADLINE to send me your address and sign up is November 26th, 2017 PST I'll have everyone's names matched and PM'd by 10 PM sometime after that date.
3..Please mail your gift by December 11th. Not everything will arrive by Christmas but the sooner we ship the sooner it arrives.
4. Matches will be randomly generated making use of boxes and printed names. Don't worry though, Jim and Fred won't be sending each other gifts. It'll be closer to Jim -> Harry, Harry -> Fred, Fred -> Jim.
5. Once you receive your gift, please take a picture and post it in the Secret Santa 2017 Photo Thread.
6. Only members that joined Deskthority before October 15th, 2017 are eligible to join. Alternatively, if you can get a trustworthy user to vouch for you I'll be glad to throw you in.
7. The size and value of the gift is open, but it should be keyboard related. For bonus points throw in some of your local candy or treats. Who doesn't like that stuff?
8. Shipping charges are on you. This is a worldwide event and as such you might end up shipping internationally. If absolutely required mention it in the PM and I'll try and match you with someone in the same geographical area. I understand that sometimes shipping internationally can be very expensive, I've been hit with that in the past.
List is as follows:

Awesome, thanks for putting this together!
Just one thing I would really like to see in the rules is a value range for the gifts. Something like „around 50$ but 100$ max“ would be nice. Just to keep things balanced out a little.

Totally agree with this, I would hate to see someone give a huge gift and just get some switches or something in return. a value range is always good.Wodan wrote: ↑Awesome, thanks for putting this together!

I'm getting a warm fuzzy feeling now and it's not even December!
Time to get my comfy socks on, the hot chocolate with ginger bread syrup, and of course some banging Christmas tunes on!
PS I agree with Wodan, we should have at least a minimum price (not max)/ product worth to give away, that way no one is going to be disappointed and if people feel like being ridiculously generous then they can!

My post may have sounded like a joke, but I wasn't joking, guyskbdfr wrote: ↑I would participate, but only on the condition I do not receive anything
In other words, should the need arise (because of e.g. a Secret Santa failing to fulfil their engagements or a parcel disappearing on its way), I'm ready to jump in.
Three reasons for that:
1. I really have to downsize my stuff and certainly not to add anything to it,
2. The risk of getting something I'm absolutely not interested in is much too high,
3. Candy is something I definitely have to avoid

We're about halfway through the month, anyone else want to join in? We've got plenty of spots!
Got everyone who's PM'd me added to the list so far.

It's best to try and keep it a secret to leave people guessing "Hm, who sent me this?". Sometimes you can cross reference sender addresses to profiles though, like we only have one person from France and one person from Croatia and so on.

Sure. Congrats on getting your assignment! If anyone else would like an earlier assignment due to lead time or whatnot, let me know.__red__ wrote: ↑Any chance of early allocation? <3
But related to that, would anyone be upset if I cut the deadline down to Sunday the 26th and got the assignments out a couple days after that? Signups seem to have mostly stalled now and that'd give us a bit more time, don't know why I decided on a late date initially.

For all I care, do it! Depending on who my match is, I have to do quite a bit of thinking about what to gift him/her.
