would be possible to add "View new posts" in the header, near the "View your posts"?
Unless I do something terribly wrong the "view new posts" is only on the homepage.

okay I tried to use it. It works but it's not exactly the same thing.
- you get a list even if there are not new posts, while the new posts listing gives you an exact view of what you have to read
- it lists each post and not each thread
anyway it's a very small thing, nice to have but not really that important
