Hi all,
I am sourcing parts for my first handwired keyboard and I need some help with the usb connection.
I plan to use a teensy as a controller, and unless I want to connect my cable inside the case, I think I'll need some kind of USB extension cable that runs from the controller to the back of the keyboard. Would you suggest a stock mini USB extension cable? I think it would be hard to find the right length. Otherwise, I am thinking of cutting my own cable connecting the teensy to the outside of the case. In this case, what are my options? Which usb socket should I look for? I can see there are a variety of USB mini B sockets (DIP, SMD, you-name-it). I guess it ultimately depends on my experience with soldering...
Any comments will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I used this mini-USB extension on three of my boards so far: http://www.ebay.de/itm/Kurz-15cm-Univer ... 1707022209
I trimmed it a bit until it had a tight fit on the cable exits of e.g. my Filco case (Phantom PCB) or my handwired Apple M0110, but you could also use e.g. hot glue to attach it to the rear of your case/plate.

I suggest getting the cheapest usb mini cable you can get and a usb micro female connector. Cut the usb mini cable, solder it to the usb micro, Glue/screw/fix the usb micro connector to the case. Connect the usb mini to the teensy.
Take the connector that will be the less pain to fix/screw/glue to the case.
