Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1a
Uses a flawless sensor, no prediction or unwanted hardware-acceleration, very simple and cheap. Is also, if not one of the most popular mice in the world, among office workers and hardcore gamers-alike. Despite that it's a bit of a hassle for low-sensitivity users as it's low malfunction rate (3m/s) is supposedly too low. But that doesn't stop it from being a great input device for everyone. Perhaps the Microsoft Intelimouse 1.0 or Intelimouse 3.0 would be a better choice as they also have side buttons and the entire three of them use the same sensor. It's just a new shape.

I think if you are a human input device and not a keyboard, you and your GF can participate.
