I know mechanical mice(the ones with the rubber ball inside) are ancient history. I remember using them in elementary school and middle school on the Mac's. Despite my history with them(I'm 30), I'm curious what, if any, modifications are available for these relics?
I know you can upgrade switches, upgrade cables, upgrade the mice feet and add grip tape, but were there(or are there) any modifications related to the ball itself? Like could you upgrade to a better quality ball? Could you replace the rollers with better quality ones?
I know people were gaming on these mice when they were relevant and I'm sure people have always been looking for a competitive edge. Was anyone doing anything to improve the quality of their mechanical mice? Just curious.

Well, it is straight pasted from Reddit. But only a few weeks ago. Consider it provisional, until proven human.
