Yet another mouse recommendation topic

I have used quite a few IntelliMouse and i must say i am always impressed by the quality of them.

Just a quick word to say that the Roccat turned up today. First impressions are very positive: it feels a nice, solid mouse, everything works properly, the tactility is just right and it just gets on with its job in an unobtrusive manner. I like it a lot.

The real test is whether I'll be able to say the same thing in six months' time!

yes that's a good price. Strange though how the same item is $ 40 + more elsewhere...

I had a Roccat Kone Pure in the past. The first week using it I got wrist problems and It would not track well on a roccat mousepad. With a Qck it was tracking well but my "pain" did not stop. In a german forum more people had the same issues. Roccat are also known to have many flaws. (my experience and what you hear from others)

I think the Mionix 7000 series right now on Massdrop is too good to pass. I will definitly get myself one since it's only $39,99 plus $6,99 shipping.

i am tempted but i don't think 400dpi is high enough for a 2560x1440 screen

I believe that with 400dpi you can go corner to corner moving the mouse 7", which is a bit much for me but not excessive!

hmm yeh thats a bit much, even considering i only use a mouse when at home for games , should be fine for work i guess as i only have a 1440x900 monitor

Guys, I guess you are right, 400 DPI isn’t technically up to date anymore. I’m using a display resolution of 1920x1080, pretty standard nowadays. And to reach from the lower left to upper right corner of my Windows-Desktop I move my hand/mouse about 2,5 inches. And this is a convenient setting for me. (I guess this equals 1600 DPI with my mouse, right?)

I agree, don't be too fixed on those XXXX DPI values. Beyond a certain value higher DPI values do not necessarily make for a better mouse experience. But I'm no expert on this! I remember a thread here a couple of months ago...

Most people are sort of sold into the idea that a heavier mice represents better quality (built as a tank as some people like to say) and that higher DPI represents technical advancement in action. Higher monitor resolutions and the transition into 4k monitors is also reinforcing this train of thought. What enthusiasts have actually realized is that a lot of tradeoffs happen at higher DPI’s.

Higher DPI isn’t always a good thing. We’ve long known that a lot of tradeoffs happen when you try to crank out the DPI and precision is adversely affected. You can read entire threads about this – there’s quite a few threads dedicated to architecture, optical vs laser and things like that. I don’t really want to get into this but the 3310 is generally a well-regarded sensor that has been around since late 2013 that enthusiasts like. Enthusiasts also prefer to use low DPI and flick/swipe their mice over long distances. That’s where this emphasis on lightweight devices come into play.

The way I see it, DPI setting should be as high as you need to feel comfortable with a Windows setting of 6/11.
6/11ths is the setting where Windows maps mouse movement 1:1 to cursor movement, so you get exact positioning (no idea about other OSes).
In my case while my mouse (Avior 7000) is capable of 7000dpi I have it set at 900dpi (I am using a 1280x1024 screen).
If I used 7000dpi even breathing on the mouse would move the cursor!

DPI is like car performance, if I drive a Porsche GT on a city road I am not going to go 250kph just because the car can do it.
On the Autobahn on the other hand...

of course it's all prefernce but from a certain DPI value upward it might become a burden rather than an improvment.

About dpi - I highly doubt a lot of people are even close to use the DPI that the mouse is capable of.

But at the end it just preference I guess. When I dropped dpi from 1600 to 400 it was strange at the beginning but after a week it felt natural. Maybe I try to use max dpi on my mouse for a week and see how I can handle it afterwards hehe

I mostly prefer to move the mouse from the wrist and use ~70 degrees of range to move edge to edge!
More sensitive than that and my accuracy suffers!

i agree with the opinion that DPI can be too high , my performance MX gets all messed up and jumpy at high DPI i set it to about 75% of its max and it works a treat
