List of Cherry keyboards by number?

I've been researching Cherry keyboards for a while now, and having spent a bit of time chasing obscure numbers it occurred to me: would a list of board numbers with brief descriptions be welcome? Something along these lines (in wiki format, of course):

1600. 1000 layout with added reader and controls. Some with dyesubs.
1700. 1000-like layout, switchable mode for PC / ASCII terminal. See brochure.
1800. Compact layout with all keys. One with dyesubs rumoured - another would be valuable.
1802. On parts sites as G80-1802LRACH.
1804. For Videonics. 1800 layout, black case and grey caps, with Clears. See Reddit thread.
1808. 1800 with unusual MX switches (linear Greys, Clears, Greens, Whites). See Reddit thread.

It's not going to be complete (or referenced well enough!) at the moment, so I'd like to put it on the wiki so any user could contribute. I'm willing to add other people's info if they'd rather. However, I'm not intending this to compete with the main wiki. My idea is to provide basic information for keyboards whose page hasn't been written yet (or will never be written, the boards being uninteresting or minor variations). Pages that exist can be linked from the list.
And if we don't want it on the wiki, no problem, I'll set up a Wordpress site or something. :)

So, do people think this would be useful? Has someone made a list already?

The full model numbers of those keyboards you mention are prefixed with G80- . There are links to categories at the bottom of each article already, grouping articles together, such as Category:Cherry G80 series.

The G80-18xx variations should be mentioned in the G80-1800 article. There are already several variations there, with links to "Main article" for a few that are special enough to have them.
The default is otherwise to write an article for each keyboard, with proper categorisation so that it can be found by them. It is not wrong to write a "stub".
I have a few times mentioned keyboards in articles about switches or in a category text when I have had very little to go on and they don't fit in anywhere else.
We should avoid duplicating information whenever possible: if something turns out to be wrong (which happens too often...) and needs to be edited, one should not have to search the entire wiki for all wrong pieces of information.

However, what is missing is a way to group the same model variation that exist within multiple series, such as G80-3000, G81-3000 and G83-8000.
I also sometimes wish that the Wiki was more of a database and that I could browse it using different views, to get introductions or infoboxes satisfying a query together instead of having to click on each one.

I'm guessing he's referring (at least in part) to this notion:

[wiki]Cherry 1000 style[/wiki]
[wiki]Cherry 3000 style[/wiki]

Such lists tend to go here:

[wiki]Category:Research[/wiki]

However, this page is not categorised at all:

[wiki]Hi-Tek Series 725 variants[/wiki]

Semantic MediaWiki makes MediaWiki more like a database, but I feel it's far too complex for realistic use at Deskthority. I don't realistically expect us to go beyond basic list pages.

I'd never seen that category before! Perhaps this is the most fitting home for the later part of the list (6000 variations, G86s, the occasional G81 fingerprint-reader keyboard...)

Ah, that's a good point. Best to add the minor variations to the main series page, then, and make pages for real one-offs.

Yes - maybe a category for each major case type?

Yes, and also simply the "what's an 1800 with Videonics written on it?" or "what's that board with the deeply-engraved doubleshots?" type of question. Fine, I'll see about adding some verified variations on, then. Thanks! :)

Got your pitchforks ready? ;)
wiki/Cherry_G80-1800#Other_variations
I'll continue if this looks acceptable. :)
