Those are extras they had on hand, it appears. You can also add a set of GMK Carbon custom keycaps (in tray, limited to 25 sets).

Yeah, bad communication from Massdrop and fiery response from community. Does not remove the fact that they have mismanaged the international drop by not having the base set as an option.
Regarding the RS96, I was a bit harsh with my comment. I just don't see the appeal towards the keyboard. While the layout is nice, the case is, to me, a bit unappealing and the screw on feet of the basic model look very odd.

Would you have rather not had the international at all? They seem to have offered it for people that were in on the original, not for itself. It seems that, just like with the RS96, people are quick to judge without having the full details...pomk wrote: Yeah, bad communication from Massdrop and fiery response from community. New post from YanboWu on the add-on drop:
Hey everyone, wanted to shed light on the GMK Carbon Base set being offered as an add-on with the Red Scarf.
- We had 25 extra GMK Carbon ordered from the last drop for possible CS issues.
- It was offered because keycaps for custom keyboards are hard to find and we thought the community would appreciate having the chance to grab a cool keycap set with their custom keyboard. Especially since we photographed the keyboard kit with the set.
- These were not made available in the GMK add-on drop because of the low quantity. If the international kit was only 25 units away from tipping we would order the extras to push it over.
- We cannot rerun the GMK Carbon set right away because that would be unfair to other designers that have approached us with their sets. GMK Carbon Base - like Carbon SA will definitely return - we want people to get a chance to get what they missed.
Hope this helps clear up most of the concerns and apologize for the confusion.

Seems pretty straightforward and a good reason for community, IMO. Just look at the complaining in the Dasher/Dancer thread for how that would be received. Running sets is a not insignificant amount of work, so one would think they have limited throughput for managing them. They know this is a money maker, but have chosen to keep to the schedule. That would seem like a less capitalistic and more community oriented approach to me.

I don't care what they offer, if it is not given the environment where it can succeed.
The drop is pointless if people interested cannot buy the set required to fill an entire keyboard. A lot of people interested in this norde kit did not buy gmk carbon because of the uncertainty of this norde kit dropping. I didn't, because I don't want to buy an expensive set with the wrong legends.
You can argue that I could just flip it later on if the norde kit did not drop/succeed, but after the international shipping (times two) and the tax imposed by my country, the zero profit price would already be around 200 USD.
The worst case now is that this international kit won't be offered the next time gmk carbon is run, because "it did not sell well the last time" or some other utter bullshit.

So do you really think that they're doing this on purpose? It seemed to me that they were offering kits (3 kits, not just the international) so that people from the Carbon drop could get the keys they needed. But somehow, this has been turned into an evil MD screed, and I just don't get it.
