Same question for the multimedia keys.
And these prices all take dye subbing into account? Wonder what the blanks will cost…

okay. This is not final yet I just needed to know how much sublimated PBT would cost.
Here below the price list for all kits. We may still add/remove something. To reduce ISO cost I might put just the ISO Enter alone. Also it might be interesting to split the mods from alpha.
The price per kit is for the MOQ. We can only go down from there. We could lower the MOQ for some less common kits.
Now.
We have two options. 1) let SP handle this, and benefit of the very nice price tag above 2) handle this directly (in collaboration with 7bit) and probably pay more for the kits.
With #2 we will have to pay import tax on the whole lot and the price tag will be higher, but shipping would probably be lower and I believe we might reach higher tiers.
With #1 SP takes care of everything, no hassle by our side, low price list, but a bit messy order system.

If you put the ISO Enter alone, where would we get the short left shift?

So selfishly, in the EU I'd rather #2, as import tax in the UK is bad (20% plus £10 handling fee). Whereas there is no import tax for EU.
But then will that then screw over all the US buyers?
I guess my other concern would be 7bit has had to go through round 5, do we need to torture him again with another buy

The price above are for SP handled and sorted kits.
The price if we handle this alone would be higher I suppose. Sorting. Can you handle it?
Actually the sorting on sublimated keys is done on the machinery (because the kits are composed on the machine before sublimating), so I guess all sets will come already sorted.

So instead of paying =< $15 for an ISO kit, we would have to pay $? for an ISO Enter and =< $27 for a Pro kit? I don't see how this solves the ISO price issue I think your first ISO kit (J-Ret + short shift + alt gr) is the more useful approach, even at $15.matt3o wrote:Pro kit I guess.imbattable wrote:If you put the ISO Enter alone, where would we get the short left shift?

No, not at all. I think this is way more complicated than it looks as an outsider, especially if you want to make everyone happy. Your work is much appreciated!

I think I already talked about this, but let's try again.
The cost of the ISO kit is more on the installation than on the key themselves. This means that to make 1 kit there's more installation/labor time. Labor > Plastic. So, the purpose is to cut the labor/machinery time and have just the cost of the plastic.
If this means having a pro kit that costs +$1 and and ISO kit half the price, I believe it is worth the effort.

Right. And so making ISO return a separate kit all by itself has the same high price problem? Putting it into pro means the setup cost is absorbed together.
I see why 7bit's script is so convoluted…
Explaining all this to newcomers interested in the GB will be interesting.

No. The ISO Enter alone would cut the labor time since the KIT doesn't need to be composed.
As of now the ISO Kit is done in two passes: 1) DCS iso enter 2) 2x 1.25u DSA. Having the ISO Enter alone should cut the price quite a bit.

I'll post the updated sets today. It might be also interesting to split the alpha from the mods, but that would make a full TKL keyboard a bit more expensive I guess.

I have nothing against the solution with SP, but will it be flexible enough if we decide to have a lot of different sets à la 7bits R5?matt3o wrote:...Also it might be interesting to split the mods from alpha.

Splitting everything up as much as possible is the way to go, imo, and also why 7bit has such a large amount of participants in his group buys!
at least splitting up the alpha and mods would be a good move! That way it's less expensive for people who'd like a set with icons on the mods instead of text.

I'm already ordering most sets, or at least as many as my wallet will allow, so no need to split them for me. SP would be significantly faster and cheaper for those of us in the US, I assume.

Yes, yes it would. Would you proxy for me!?
Anyway, this is DT. You're the guys who live "way out over there". Just like SP, alas.
The irony is not lost on us that Europe's very own GMK is still more expensive than shipping back and forth from the Pacific Northwest. Even for American buyers of Round 5 whose caps will go on a fine old tour!
