Today what I have for sale is a fully restored and USB converted (via xwhatsit) IBM 3278 Beamspring Keyboard with genuine Selectric Blue keycaps.
The keyboard is fully tested and functional (including the original solenoid) and all switches feel consistent overall. The keycaps are in excellent condition, with no noticeable yellowing on any of the original or Selectric portion, and no shine on the original portion (since the Selectric portions are naturally smooth and shiny).
The original plastic door has been replaced with a custom metal one and the case/door have been sandblasted and powder coated in Beach Beige, which has a very similar color and texture to the original paint, for a consistent look.
Additionally, the keyboard comes with a custom-fitted Pelican case to protect it from the elements when not in use or during transport (please see pictures below).
Some things of note:
- The original plastic door along with a Selectric typewriter cover (useful for protecting the keyboard on the desk when not in use) will be included.
- The original door clip is sadly broken, and thus was replaced with a custom blue resin-cast one that matches the Selectric keycaps.
- The new clip is fully functional, although a little bit small so it had been taped from the back (not visible during use) to keep it from shifting slightly.
- There is some mild discoloration on the plate, as pictured, that is fully smooth to the touch.
- The "Enter" key has been replaced with an equivalent one from a German set ("Fehler Korr") as sadly I was not able to source one from an English set.
- There is some mild chip damage to some small parts of the inner sides of the case (as pictured), although with the powder coating they're not very noticeable.
Thanks for looking!
