Basically yeah, you could use the inside of a nut for this but i used those little things that you used to find on the sides of serial ports... cuz... well, i still had half a million of those and you can kind of cut those to length pretty nicely (unlike nuts)
I cut those just on the large side and then hammered em inside the profile and added some left over epoxy for good measure so they will never ever move. Find nice tapered screws to fit em, countersink the holes in the bottom plate and its all good!

Saw to cut, bench-grinder and files to get it accurate (aluminium is really really soft so very easy to work with)
