There's an extremely long story attached to this keyboard. I may post that in the Workshop area. FWIW, this keyboard was bid on about 15 min after I posted it to ebay. Another person bought my OmniMac, which was online for all of 5 minutes ... but he hasn't paid yet.

Don't buy https://www.ebay.com/itm/174767778602. I did. A month-ish ago. NEC blue oval at a really good price.

Key Tronic magnetic reed with some interesting key legends, particularly a bunch of combining diacritics.

I suspect this was for entering MARC records.
Current price rather out of line for the condition of the board.

Please don't buy this guys, someone took the stickers off, painted it blue and copper and then put the stickers back on. Look how bad the paint job is. You're going to overpay for some NASA stickers that you can print out from online.

I can confirm this is true. I bought one a year ago and the switches are crap compared to genuine alps and the keys are pad printed. It’s the lowest end of the FK-2001’s based on my experience. Sadly it is tempting just for the dust cover as they are hard to come by,...raoulduke-esq wrote: ↑12 May 2021, 21:49If anyone wants a $60 dust cover to go with their 2001 with good switches you can get a brand new one from this 2001 with ghetto switches: https://www.ebay.com/itm/203449703881

Oh man, if that was a genuine Nasa item it would be for some grands, but now it is totally ruined, what a joke.
But maybe it is only a movie prop or just fake, I'm not totally convinced, the images are quite blurry and there would be some big sticker saying that it was property of the US government.

God what an absolute eyesore...for only $2000!
I think it will still go for a lot because someone is going to unwittingly pay it. There are currently 78 people watching the auction and it's already at $365
There is a sticker actually on the right hand side that says that it's property of the US government. I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt that it was some sort of NASA surplus since NASA used IBM, but there's nothing unique about the keyboard. You can make all the stickers yourself on your computer, or print them out online, for a total of less than $5.

Yeah, but I was talking about that kind of stickers that come with a serial number. There is a "Grumman" maintenance sticker in the back that is half convincing, but as far as I'm concerned they may as well had put into this some "Star Trek" stickers and claim it was the official Mr. Spock keyboard from the Enterprise.Weezer wrote: ↑14 May 2021, 23:37There is a sticker actually on the right hand side that says that it's property of the US government. That's about the going rate for a Model F 122-key terminal.
As to whether it really is a ruined NASA artifact, that may never be known.
At any rate, an internal Soarer's, an ANSI mod, and a nice charcoal gray paint job would produce a perfectly viable $400-$500 keyboard suitable for use in the 21st century.
