So I have a thing for Greek!

Predictably costly to get this Model M up from Cyprus back to Scotland, unfortunately.

£26.00 isn't so bad!

I found a Model M with a strange layout on a Polish site:

So for any buckling spring-inclined Poles!

That layout isn't that strange, just Swiss.

Ah, fair enough. Thanks. I was unaware of the Swiss layout. I never would have guessed that, with it being on a Polish site.

Oooh! Anyone up for proxying that to Britain?

mr_a500

03 Jan 2014, 20:25

You want that? The only NIB AEK II keyboards left are probably the mushy "Made in Mexico" ones. Even the regular USA ones are crap compared to the original AEK.

Mu, if you still want it I can proxy.

I might. I'm more after the NIB case and caps, if the AEK II can be convinced to take Matias switches…

What exactly is mushy about those? Wiki:
All keyboards made in Japan have had ANSI layouts. ISO layout keyboards have been built in Ireland.
Being ISO DE layout it's likely the board has cream ALPS or maybe white cream ALPS, I've had both and didn't recall them being mushy although my cream ones were used heavily.

Matias's are pin compatible to ALPS afaik, so this shouldn't be a problem, soldering is easy on these PCBs.

Good to hear it. Apple used funny caps, if I remember, rotated 90º on some of their boards. But if it's all in good shape, I might not feel the need to change anything; and Matias is there if I do.

What exactly is mushy about those? Wiki:
Well, I've never actually had a "Made in Mexico" AEK II, but back when I was buying some, I read that you should always avoid the "Made in Mexico" ones because they were "mushy". Maybe they were bullshitting. Who knows?

I do have two "Made in USA" AEK II keyboards, with cream ALPS - and they suck compared to my two orange ALPS original AEKs and M0116.

That, I can't comment about, due to lack of other Apple keyboards apart from the II.

The Function row is flipped 90°. Key profile is different due to the wave in the boards profile, Return is tiny as are some other keys odd, compared to, say, standard Cherry spacing. Only a problem if you want to dump the really nice thick dyesubbed PBT caps. If you don't want to mod it there's nothing wrong with those keyboards, imo. :)

Exactly. The AEK II is a real looker, I'm used to Apple's cropped ISO, and NIB is calling me. Now let's just see how high it goes…

Bugger. It went for just €27 while I was away. My (evidently very lazy) AEK hunt must continue another day.

This was NIB, A500. And in Germany, Europe's own land of cheap shipping. I'm still cheesed that I forgot to check in on it…

mr_a500

"Land of cheap shipping"... ah.. that sounds like some kind of mythical utopia where everybody's happy, dancing around in the sunshine.

I'm from the "land of obscene rip-off shipping" where everybody's miserable, muttering and cursing under their breath in dark slushy misery. Even if I sent you a free AEK II, it wouldn't be worth the shipping cost.

That's what I mean. Europe's not great for shipping either, but Germany is about as good as it gets. Really helps not to cross oceans, either. But if only we all had the speedy, reasonable post of Hong Kong!

woah. Bad luck you missed it. Here's some recent finds:

* Sharp keyboard. GH suggests linear ALPS switches, fuzzy pic only slightly shows the multilegend (japanese ?) keycaps:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Sharp-X68000-Tas ... 417b3d4d02

* Olivetti 2812 HBD. pic however looks like black doubleshots, so not sure whether this one is really original...:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Computer-Tastatu ... 19e71c8804

* compaq keyboard with a speaker. Looks like the maxi switch made regular compaq keyboards although this one has some odd connector, so maybe some terminal, whatever board, perhaps MX compatible caps though:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Raritat-Alte-Com ... 20ddafe927

* Bloomberg "trading floor keyboard". looks real flat so likely rubberdome?
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Bloomberg-Tradin ... 3a89b9df13

* Televideo keyboard, @wikipedia maybe mechanical, maybe not.
http://www.ebay.de/itm/PC-Tastatur-Tele ... 1c3afaea41

* Apple M0118 for cheap. 8€ BIN it's yours. :
http://www.ebay.de/itm/AppleTastatur-Ke ... 233473e3fc

* Amiga 1000 keyboard. unknown switches, our wiki implies Mitsumi tactile. Which would make the caps MX compatible. "French belgian Version " with what looks like layout stickers, not really cheap though: (edit: plus those came in Mitsumi square mount too as it seems -risky)
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Tastatur-fuer-Am ... 54031bc599

* Fan of wooden cases? This could be a cheap starter for a mod job:
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Sehr-schicke-USB ... 20dda4d3d7

* odd "Platinum Sound Multimedia Stereo Keyboard MSK-200" with built in Music speakers, amp (?) ands some blinking V-meters.
http://www.ebay.de/itm/Multimedia-Tasta ... 4ace6ca537

All the carnival also in this YT vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CFoUIk7R2JE

I would say it was (somebody already bought it) not black doubleshots, but blue doubleshots - and a very crappy pic

I'm buying an M0110 from Snoopy in Germany. Any great German finds I can proxy along with it? The M0118 is interesting, but now I'm really kicking myself over missing that AEK II. NIB! For nary a penny…
