Great/Interesting Finds

There have been two Swedish Model M going up repeatedly on a Swedish auction site without being sold for the past month. I offered him about half what he had been asking for and said that he could either keep trying to auction them off at his high starting price or accept my offer of 30€. He did. He might also accept 25€. PM me if you are interested. The seller is located in my city, so I can proxy if need be but this probably only interests Swedes anyway.

It has old Alps vintage tee mount switches and doubleshot keycaps and a grouping of relegendable caps.

Basically THIS board, but I think a different model number.

I already picked one up, but looks like he has one more.

they were all gone, but now they are back, five for sale now, he's dripfeeding them:

I'm not sure whether this is a great find at all, but there is POS keyboard on ebay which seems to have Cherry MX Blue switches (It is hard to tell, as it's photo is neither large enough nor sharp enough to be sure). If it is equipped with MX Blues, you would get 105 switches plus a bunch of weird keycaps for 20€:

I can confirm the keyboard has MX blue switches (I have/had the same).
Plus the photo shows it has this gorgeous set of (doubleshot!) number keycaps:

(I also still have a set of them somewhere)

So I would say yes, it is a great /interesting find

Ooh, that POS keyboard looks very very cool. Is that a local eBay classifieds site? I can't find the same ad on Irish eBay, so I assume so.

Yeah, these are local ads, but if you're interested I can act as translator and proxy.

At first I thought they were NIB but they are in fact frankenboards where the caps are from a G81 keyboard. Still rare and expensive but not I wouldn't call it a NIB item.

I'm very tempted but I'm worried that the double shipping costs would increase the price by a lot. Do you know how much it would be to ship to me in Ireland plus the price of getting it to you? Thanks for the offer, by the way!

Wow... maybe I'll just start to make custom keyboards for a living. Apparently you can make quite a lot of money with it...

I just got mine today. I attempted a "TRS-80-ification" (swapping TRS-80 Model III keycaps):
TRS90.JPG
The keycaps fit nicely (they're both "T" ALPS), but there aren't enough keys to make it work.... but maybe I'll claim it's a "RARE KEYBOARD L@@K!!!" and sell it on eBay for $1299. :D

Don't suppose you have some nice easy teensy code all written up and ready to go once mine arrives? :p

I have some very nice code written up... but it's in BASIC. It goes:

10 PRINT "I do hope Soarer's keyboard hack will work."
20 GOTO 10

Hack? It's spelled converter! Or is this something else entirely in the annals of Soarer magick?

It is the same asshole seller who promised to pack properly and ships the boxes naked and they got wet and damaged!

Are you saying there's a syntax error in my BASIC program?

"Naked" boxes? The keyboard boxes seem sturdy enough to ship without damage to the keyboard - especially with all that styrofoam. I've had things shipped to me in much flimsier boxes. He can't have known the shipper would put them in water. No need to call the seller an "asshole" for that.

You are obviously no true collector!

The true collector always collects the box along the item inside!

yeah, tbh if I'm buying a nib item I want the box to be in good nick

I can understand collecting boxes that actually have something on them, but not a dusty old plain box.

Here are some of the boxes in my closet:

But I don't need to keep the IBM keyboard box. The next time you're in Canada, I'll personally give you my IBM keyboard box... for free.
