Thanks Pho, snagged this for £12 shipped. Pretty cheap and nasty feeling, but the layout is kind of cool and the switches are pretty good (compatible to OA2 clones). The right shift is killing me though, I keep leaving #### everywhere .

I forgot to mention that I did PM the same seller that I bought mine from. He says he does have plenty more Nixdorf boards in various condition. He thinks that anyone will pay his insane prices though. I say wait and see how many or few he sells and then approach him with a GB offer for X amount of boards. The more boards he has in total the easier it might get for us if he sells few or little for € 200+. Patience.

Right, the bottom line is these sellers just try out these crazy offers after they got some hint online of what someone might pay for a 20+ year old used piece of hardware. So kbdfr's argument is right of course, where the hell do these sellers get these pricing ideas? Other auctions, us and GH, Reddit and whatever other few sources there are. But the more you have for sale the less likely it is that every single one will go for the high roller offer. We'll see.

To be fair, 250€ still is less than what Nixies went for about a year ago. And the seller probably accepts offers well below that price tag. Whoever placed the winning bid on the latest auction (<120€) got himself a reasonably good deal.

Honestly what is it with the fear of electricity here? The wall sockets have goddamn on/off buttons on them Oo .

America is nervous, but some of it serves a purpose. GFCIs are standard in bathroom building codes at least. I must say that grounding a space bar due to a 5 volt milliamp-current electrical source is excessive, though.

I didn't notice any excesses in America with the electricity tbh, although I was only there for two weeks. If you want to see nervousness, come see what happens when the Health and Safety officer catches a few drops of coffee on the floor, or small amounts of writing on a glass panel. You'd think it was murder on the Orient Express :p .

Thanks XMIT. I had it mixed up -- I thought Greenock was the source of PBT space bars, not ABS space bars.

No, they have crazy Health & Safety rules here, so they wanted grounded spacebars, so they made them out of ABS and clipped a metal bit to it to protect you from the evil electricity.

I didn't think that was paranoia so much as energy savings. It's nice to know that your devices at idle use Zero Watts instead of zero-ish.
