Hi all, again
So the first meetup was lots of fun (definitely successful )
Now it's time to start planning the next one, sth (GeekHack), mentioned that he may know of a place closer to the city (SF).
The place we held it (TechShop SJ) worked out great, though I need to make sure I have enough notice to book it (a bunch of weekends are booked full). I'm open to holding it anywhere in the Bay Area if the place can get organized.
The time target will be 1~2 PM again for about 4 hours.
Please post if there are "bad" weekends in October, as a date has not been set yet. I will try to accommodate as many people as possible.
I always have too much to talk about when it comes to keyboards, and will prepare slides again. But if anyone has presentations they want to make, let me know, I'll help out.
There will be an update on The Alps Kiibohd project, but those who attended the past meeting will be semi kept up to date until then.
Live casting, if anyone wants to bring equipment/set it up . Not my area of expertise, and doesn't interest me that much so I don't have much motivation...sorry.
Any photographers...please come. My phone takes almost passable photos now, but it'd be nice to have someone who likes to take photographs around
Just today I received yet another really interesting "clicky" keyboard that I'll bring to the next meetup. I'll try to bring 5-7 keyboards again, so let me know if there are any requests from my collection. Just because it's fun to type on (on top of being cool), I'll bring the Burroughs Opto-Electric.
I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but whatever.
All are welcome

Should give me a few weeks to get my telepathic mental steering rig working. (Teleporter is some way off yet, sadly.)

If you can get closer than 90 miles out from me I can more than likely get my hands on a Canon T2i, T4i, T3 or XS (maybe it's a XSi) from my school, we have about 5 T4is, two T2is a T3, the XS(i) and a bunch of Powershots, and rarely are 20 cameras used at once. I personally own a Canon 300D (Think: Their first consumer DSLR from 2003-2004) that works fine for snow, not so great inside.
I'm not aware of any weekends I'm busy in October, it's just a matter of me finding transportation as I don't yet drive, can't afford gas\insurance without a job in high school.

My ~2005 Canon 350D (the original Digital Rebel, I think, in Canon's American naming) does a decent job if you shoot with enough light and have a steady hand. It's only really capable of ISO 400, but that's enough for keyboards.
The more cameras the better, of course. Especially if you've different glass for taking wide whole body shots and then picking out the details without constant lens swapping.

The 350D is actually the Rebel XT, the original "Digital Rebel" is the 300D, but Digital Rebel pretty much sounds like a generic term for Canon's Consumer DSLRs.
The thing about the school cameras is I can get a EF-S 18-135, whereas I only own the 18-55mm, 75-300mm USM III and EF 80-200 crap lens.
On a more somewhat related note, I have a feeling we need a photography thread here (or is there one I've never seen?).

So, I'm willing to hold it closer to SF (or anywhere in the Bay Area really). But I need help finding a place. If no one steps up, I will book the SJ TechShop again.
Looking for 4 hours on Saturday or Sunday (preferably not too early )
acantha sent me a list of hackerspaces in the Bay Area http://hackerspaces.org/wiki/California. These will likely work, but they have to be booked (and often membership paid). I have a TechShop membership so I can book in SF and SJ (SJ is probably easier to book, and I've never been to the SF TechShop; Menlo Park TechShop is going through some difficulties right now...).
I do have a weekend in October where I will not be free (not completely locked down yet, but likely 12th, 13th).

No one has stepped up to book another place.
So, I'll be looking this weekend again for timeslots at TechShop SJ
To help out those in the city, I'll try to figure out if people don't mind giving rides.

Possible dates (this may change), aiming for a 1 PM till 5 PM again:
Sept. 28
Oct. 5
Oct. 6
Oct. 19
Oct. 20
Oct. 26 (would be starting at 2 PM)
All at TechShop SJ.
I'll probably book the room on Monday.
I'm up for drinks/food afterwards (I don't mind drinks/food at the meetup...just it has to be separated from the keyboards ). There are a bunch of places downtown SJ.
Also, sound off if you are looking for rides (or don't mind giving rides).

So apparently I can only book the room a week in advance.
I'll try initially for Oct. 6th (which means I'll try to book on the 29th) at 1 PM.

Should be "II" instead of "2". It's too late to go 0, 1, 2 … 9, A, B … F, 10, 11 :>
Or maybe number them in octal.

Well, maybe I should number it after ASCII?
Start with NUL, next would be SOH. The 30th may be interesting...space

Ok, so I've been looking at other dates in October, and it seems like it can be either Oct. 6th, or much later in the month...
Bah.
So this is what I'm going to do. I'm going to [try and] schedule the Oct. meetup for the 6th. We can have the next meetup late October/early November. The room costs me nothing outside of my membership fee to TechShop, just have to book it.
I'm going to try and figure out the best way to get consensus on dates each month.
