I find it more disturbing than interesting. What a waste of time.guk wrote: ↑It's interesting how someone would choose such a crappy keyboard to a) retrobright it and b) mod it.

You're suspecting wrongly. I just found this an interesting find because of the modding and the retrobrighting (even if applied to crap).seebart wrote: ↑Hmm I suspect you are trying to tell us (me) something with your infinite wisdom? It's really not that bad...Except for the yellowed spacebar and the standard disintegration of the rubber feet...
Especially for someone in the US..I'd get it.

There's potential for this to have blue alps, and if so, it's a great price considering the last guy I saw selling one with blue alps was trying to gouge $250.
Intelli has mentioned that not all gold labels have blue alps for sure though, so it is a risk unless you ask the seller to show a switch.
Don't worry Blaise, your Chicony will stay alive in spirit! Sorry though. I know how it feels selling something and immediately regretting it. I sold one of these on eBay recently: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-NES-SNES- ... SwgQ9VpE3b
And almost all the money I made from it, something I was a little reluctant on selling, was taken by a scammer in the keyboard world. :/

Wow, look at that pincushion distortion in that Omnikey photo!
I hope twitchbot is enjoying the blue Alps board he got from me. Apparently he got an excellent deal on it.

Yeah, all of the blue alps boards I've gotten, I've paid $100 for every time. The first because I was fed up with no one seeming to have one at a decent price, and I probably shot way too high of an offer for a reddit user's NTC 6151N, even with a cracked case (which I did not notice in the photos). Then I bricked that by being an idiot.XMIT wrote: ↑Wow, look at that pincushion distortion in that Omnikey photo!

I got the Fame keyboard through a friendly reseller in Australia I got to know as a replacement for my NTC. Came out to $100 because of shipping.
The cheapest blue alps board I got was a Leading Edge DC-2014 for $85. I really dislike that layout though and I'm not a big fan of the Leading Edge design (either 2014 or 3014) though the NKRO is nice.
What keyboard did twitchbot buy from you, XMIT?

Northgate is gone! Let's see if it turns up around here! I wonder if it's going to be salvaged for its switches or if the buyer is going to enjoy it as is.

Damn these great finds forums! I was waiting on a response from the seller regarding the blueness of the Alps on that Omnikey.

There are exceedingly few keyboards I regret selling but this is one of them. I enjoyed the layout and the switches, and did not ask nearly enough for it.
At least I still have some Monterey Blue boards, those are very nice.

Get it while it's hot, guys! Same seller. I've only seen one of these on the forums and their example had blue alps. I'd say
there's a 90% chance this one does too.
EDIT: Serial # is lower for the one on eBay so I'd say it's a near certainty that this one has blue alps.

I put in a $50 offer on that Northgate for the hell of it, so fear not, the offer wasn't drastically low. I have no way of knowing, but if it was a best offer, I bet it was from $75-85.
AND ITS GONE!
So what was the offer?

The Omnikey and DTK both sold for BIN price, I believe. If you go to sold listings they don't show that an offer was accepted. I don't know why, but sometimes on the auction page it will indicate best offer accepted even when you opt to buy it now. I noticed this on an item I once purchased.
I wouldn't be surprised if the buyer for both is the eBayer that appears to me only as b**a (1666). He is a prolific collector. He finds all the same keyboards that I find on eBay and outbids, outbuys, and generally outmaneuvers me. Must have deep pockets. We both made an offer on the DTK and I suspect he opted to BIN as a guarantee. The market is too competitive!

Ahh, I remember when eBay didn't hide the identities of the bidders. There must've been some harassing going on for them to hide bidder identities, but that was a long time ago anyway.
Yeah, the only real way to get a bargain these days is to buy directly from an e-cycler or business itself. You will seldom ever get a decent deal on eBay or online in general unless the person is blissfully unaware, surprisingly generous, or it goes under the radar thanks to a typo or poor keywords or something. Everyone is focused on making a profit, and it's hard to blame them. The only place I still see keyboards go for surprisingly cheap is eBay Germany.

Hearing people actually say "loll" really brings home what an execrable shorthand it is. Meant to say OH YEAH I'M LITERALLY LAUGHING RIGHT NOW but sounds like "meh".
