The splitted SHIFT is not a problem anymore, since I used a few months a 60% keyboard (this Face U replica PCB from tinnie). Sometime I miss the SHIFT cap, but most of the time it is OK, and I like it. What is more new for me now is the DELETE and DEL position. CONTROL is also OK, since I have it on the SSK like that. What I love is that all the keys like PAGE UP or the arrow keys are signed. Helps me a little bit!

Nah, I'm just pining for a Topre Clack. Damn hard things to get hold of. Not really my style, either, but you make them look irresistible on Topre and IBM.

I see the effort and the skill in them. Especially the good ones, like Madhias has an eye for. (Compare and contrast with Brobots…) Done well, they can be the cherry on a sundae.
But I ain't paying market value for them. I draw a line somewhere!

Alternatively, one could have dedicated keys instead of trying to reduce the keyboard to the size of a credit cardMuirium wrote: ↑[…] Shift + Option + Arrows is the big one. […] Chord the mods with your left hand, and pinky your way into the function layer with your right. […]

Delicious!
@Kbdfr: I wind up pressing those HHKB combos on my full size boards too. Normal boards have a whole lot of dead space for layers guys like me. It's like purposefully keeping all your tools artificially far apart. I like them all within closest reach.

Sort of. Only in the realm of computers there's no difference between my 5 mm Allen key and yours. Etc. etc. They appear from the ether, perfect, and both do their tasks with supreme precision and speed. We simply trigger them differently. You by stretching over to a dedicated key. Me by pressing a combination.
I like this topic. It's more uplifting than arguing about our dear friend MX, whose failings are all too physical!

To take a keyboard with me the HHKB is probably the best I have ever had! It weights not much, actually it is very light and compact. My other small keyboard has a metal case, and is therefor much heavier. Of course the size and weight is not only because of portability reasons though, more to have all the layers and all functions in one small place. But it would be the same for the multitool: when I ride with my bicycle I won't take the full tool set with me, but only the multitool.
I like the 'raw' look of this skulls, and that they look like hand carved from a mad and crazy person deep in the night. Well, that is what I imagine at least... But it is true: like a cherry on a sundae (never heard of that comparison)! Sometimes one does not have to pay the full market value, better no one ever should, but it is like with all gems and much in demand items. Must not even be a physical item!Muirium wrote: ↑I see the effort and the skill in them. Especially the good ones, like Madhias has an eye for. Artisans, particularly those that look like heads, are definitely a matter of personal taste/preference. For instance, I've never seen one that didn't look like it belonged on my 11-year old nephew's gaming board. So tacky. Even with one that is "expertly sculpted", I don't want a key that is so differently shaped; the aesthetic discontinuity is just too extreme for my tastes. I see a lovely keyboard with a beautiful, consistent keycap aesthetic ruined by an Artisan leaping out like a sore thumb, and I just shudder.

Idk where i fall in the category of artisans, i like the planer shapes, but i really like the materials Bro Caps and Clack were working with. Binge is another good example and i support the artisans, but not the scalpers. I particularly enjoy the fervor of the outrage over the 'counterfeit' artisan cap scene. The artisans sell them for 50 bucks, the next person who sells it sends it off for 450 bucks, and then a guy comes along and clones the OG work and sells it for 35 a pop. Idk if thats good business or just a bad scene with a bubble economy thats gonna get burst.
@DanielT those look pretty slick
@Madhias that is a pretty classy looking setup. Most of the hoarders elsewhere have keyboards that look like a pile of these guys:

It is definitely a topic which is always like black or white. Funny thing about these plastic caps is that those are actually just keyboard keycaps. And it is when you think of it totally ridiculous, and if I would think too much about it I would face palm all the time. But on the other hand, it is one of the many things which makes keyboards interesting and sometimes badass too. And things get weird when money is involved. As always!

Lovely board derzemel! You don't see standard G80-1800HAUs too much. Usually G81 or some other model #.

Didn't realise the profile was so low on the caps.
Keycaps profile is similar (identical?) to M2 caps. I tried to put a model M cap on it, and while it wobbles a lot, it fits!
