Hmm, looks like the case is derivative of the much lauded Acer KB101A case. It's almost exactly the same aside from the details on the top ridge. The bottom is the same and so is the wedge profile. Take it from someone whos been restoring a KB101A for the past 12 hours or so.
There's even a filled in area where there would ordinarily be a recess for the 1 | 2 | 3 protocol switch.
Interesting~
It most definitely isn't one though xD . Moreover, the KB-101A case design, unchanged, was used for the 6011 series, 6311 series, and maybe even the 6511 series, so never buy one purely off of the case shape! But yeah, this one was obviously at least based on it
.
Haha, of course it isn't, and yes I know about the design being used for the other Acer models; it's specifically the Acer 6311-K that has the KB101A case design. The particular 6011 model that uses it is hard to pin. I have a 6011 that was made in Malaysia and does not look like the KB101A. I would imagine perhaps that the models made in Taiwan likely have the KB101A case and were likely the earlier models.
I'm assuming that the molds were just reused or altered for certain companies in Taiwan. I can't imagine someone going through all the work of cloning the KB101A's case shape.
EDIT: There was also this weird one from NEC, which is Japanese, but... Maybe they all sourced their cases from the same place?
Ya know, for being something that is so distinctive, you'd think it was a unique design, but it isn't.
Having a KB101A now; I'm really not sure how I feel about the design.
