In any case, how many items did Berserkfan sell? Managing a big sale isn't difficult -- it's just time consuming to set up a proper inventory system. The multiple selling, even if it was unintentional, was terrible. The shipping was in a shambles. The follow up communications were nothing short of standoffish or nonexistent.
None of those characteristics inspire buyer confidence, so ass covering and intense distrust were a reasonable reaction (if not an ideal one). Saying that Rootwyrm is solely responsible for the defamation of Berserkfan is silly. The seller excavated himself a nice, deep grave. Even if he was helped into it, he's liable for digging it.
I'm willing to entertain the fact that Berserkfan is a decent guy who is simply inept or incapable of handling large sales (perhaps due to his "situation"), but what it means is functionally the same for users. Most will look at it like a scam or a broken contract.
Nor, I should add, is it the responsibility of buyers to organize and re-ship items to their proper owners. Could they do sor as a community service? Yes. Are they obligated to? No. A buyer should only be held responsible for returns. In this case, returns were only somewhat viable (partially due to the fact that Berserkfan's shipping/inventory system was deeply flawed, thus he had no real 1:1 record of what went to whom).
If you can't sell right or handle contingencies, do not sell things.
No dispute as to the Berserkfan's negligence during the initial phase of this sale.. And while I am unsure of his full capabilities, I recall he is in the technical field by occuption, so most likely since this happened during a large move as part of a moving sale, the coordination was not of his finest..
We also agree on the fact that Berserkfan is not the most adept negotiator or publics relations official.
However, Berserkfan is upstanding, and he stood by and attempted behind the scenes organization, up until actions were made impossible by the Lies and Lynchmobbing perpetrated by user --Rootwyrm--..
Even if we accept that --Rootwyrm-- and skysphoric / chuckdee has done the ONE right thing to organize a tabulation of shipments after the fact..
Right after the initial shipment error, there was no need to defame Berserkfan. file disputes which locked the paypal account functions, and the fact remains --Rootwyrm-- etc are simply WRONG..
This was not a scam... a poorly handled moving sale, fine, but NOT a scam...
