I am strongly against the brexit but i don't think the whole thing is about racism, sure there will be elements of it quite possibly large ones but as with most things the enemy is lack of education.

I mean we have people voting to leave the EU on the idea of "they want to keep the muslims out" when that has nothing to do with the freedom of movement around the EU.

Farage is in the " I am not racist but ......" camp, and unfortunately the miss informed fall for it.

His message has stoked the real true hardline racists, assholes.

And the idea was to leave the EU and unite the Country, this vote has had the opposite effect causing devisions between people and threatening to tear the UK apart.

Can someone stop this planet please , i want to get off.

Although the evil snickering of the parliament near the end when he discusses trade agreements I found the most scary. Whatever power play you're in favor of there, it is a very serious issue. If the EU punishes the UK for leaving, for strategic purposes, it still means punishing the 48% of morally enlightened financial sector fans, and punishing all the people in the EU who make a living with that trade. I guess that collateral damage is only worth some snickering. Those are your leaders people, showing their true faces. You know what they'll turn into and do if your particular EU country won't comply with their wishes in the future. That'll go down well in the Netherlands.

If the UK wants to leave the EU and the EU lets the UK go but refuses to grant them any of the benefits of the membership they just revoked ... is that what you keep referring to that as "punishment" ?

Well with all punishments the EU is preparing for the UK, shipping to Mars will soon be cheaper than shipping to the UK.

I honestly don't thing there will be direct "punishments" sure the deal wont be as good as if we where in but the EU would be cutting off its nose to spite its face, we are a large part of the EU economy whats good for the UK is good for the EU, sam the other way around.

Whist trading will become more expensive EU < > UK we still have to trade , i mean people who wants Italian lemonade still want Italian lemonade, the UK being outside the EU wont change the need for the products.

So its going to be complex and a complete mess and a waste of a shit load of money to get back to a similar situation.

Of course, Nigel Farage is shocked, shocked, that anyone would think Brexit was about racism.

Yay humanity.

One would think that in a world more connected than ever, in which we have the technology to chat with anyone on the planet at any time and travel almost anywhere, we would perhaps gain a better understanding of each other and realize we have much more to bring us together than reinforce the arbitrary divisions we have created.

But i'm starting to believe that attempting to understand and accept human beings seemingly different than us is too much effort for many of our measely brains. We often act very tribal, and tend to gather with and favor those much like ourselves. We seem born without these favoritisms and divisions, but rather they become ingrained in us as we plod along. We all are capable of overcoming them or never developing them, with conscious effort, questioning of what we are told to believe, and simple attempts to understand why people do the things they do and how they develop their personal beliefs. Acceptance of the world as it exists is vital. It's not that hard, really, to see that a person that speaks a different language, might have a different skin color, practices a different religion, prefers screwing their own gender, most likely wants a peaceful, safe, happy life for themselves and their family like the rest of us. They most likely don't have an organized conspiracy to kill your family or take all your jobs.

A sizeable segment of us in the Western world right now seem to be settling in that we would all be better off with people just like us. Get rid of the [insert group of people], and we will be good to go! Yea right, that kind of thinking is a distraction from the actual roots of our societal problems.

But like many other beneficial habits that require conscious effort, some of us don't bother. It comes to a simple choice for all of us at an individual level, really: you can be motivated by fear, or you can choose to think beyond that and actually try to understand why people do what they do and what connects us, rather than divides us.

It also helps if the countries people migrate from get their shit together and western countries stop fucking them up. That would be some progress. But it also takes significantly more complex problem solving than xenophobia, restricting migration, bombing from afar, slaughtering your own population, waltzing into neighboring countries, and some of the other leading international trends being practiced right now that seem to cause more problems than solve.

Anyways, enough of my off hand, half brain philosophies on humanity.
