@7bit
when is next shipping batch planned?
Asking because I need at least the Round5 leftovers for december the 21, so if the phase1 couldn't make it in time, would be really cool to have the Round5 (7bot says these are already packed).

Then there is no way to make it since there is nothing left to buy to get a good kit?zslane wrote: ↑I estimate we are about 10% of the way there (assuming we need to collect $10k).
So the old collectors must have not sendt over the money?
I really feel we should atleast get an overview of this since alot of us spendt some money here, the books should be open?

WARNING: I just want to clarify our situation. I don't mean to criticize this GB or 7bit. I had read ALL replies on this thread about R5 before started sending message to 7bot to order R6 kits, so I don't think I have any wrong expectation.GriffDeLaGriff wrote: ↑ I really feel we should atleast get an overview of this since alot of us spendt some money here, the books should be open?

OK. Just do some math. I'm good at math.
First email I received from 7bot is on Mar 31. Take only the Round 6 part (HONEYB/*). Multiply column 2 with column 3, and add together.
$50,358 was the amount 7bit needed to complete R6 (both phases) at that time.
***
Last email I received from 7bot is on Dec 13. Do the same calculation.
$29,810 is the amount 7bit need at the moment (Dec 13).
***
So in the last nearly 9 months, 7bit collected $20,548 from R6 orders in theory. Due to newly created kits, the exact number should be a bit higher, $25,000 is a good assumption.
But he had to take $10,000 from that to pay SP for remaking caps as he stated above. He also have another $10,000 of collected money stucking somewhere in his proxies. And that stucking $10,000 is theoretic too, because it's calculated on supposition that unreported orders was ALL paid. He only has $5,000 left to send to SP.
In short, in JUST the term of payable of Phase 2, we have made very little progress since Mar 31.
***
I'm worried a bit about this GB. Reasons are:
- We need to collect around $40,000 more (Presume that we will have no problem with $10,000 stucking in proxies)
- From what I know, SP only start producing your caps if you pay them 100% production cost. And SP only ship those caps to you if you pay them the remain shipping cost. That means Phase 1 cost has been fully paid, and all that $40,000 is for the Phase 2.
- Almost available leftover kits are hard to sell. All popular kits are already sold. When Phase 1 caps are fully sorted and shipped, 7bit will have a few extras per kit and a bunch of grab bags, but we shouldn't expect much from those extras.
- Many new SA keyset GBs have been opening for last 6 months. About 1 new SA keyset GB per month. SA keysets will never as hard to find as before. R6 leftovers and R7 kits will be sold very slowly from now on.

Sell the grab bags at reddit, people there love grab bags (the ones sold directly by SP are always sold out very fast).khongthenhuvay wrote: ↑7bit will have a few extras per kit and a bunch of grab bags, but we shouldn't expect much from those extras.

or how about an update on any extra sets or keys available now so people can buy them? The cash collected from these sales will definitely help out too.
I am surely keen on grabbing some ready stock extras.

And there's something I cannot get my head around: The prices are set so that a certain number of each kit has to be sold, meaning that the leftovers is basically what's left in order for that kit to reach MOQ. But how is it possible for kits in Phase 2 to be sold out, if the order is yet to be made? As of now, there's a bunch of Phase 2 leftovers but not really anything that covers a standard setup in a sensible way. Would it not then make sense to allow people to order more of some popular kits, which would hopefully lead to people buying e.g. a TKL kit and some novelties/grab bags to go with it? Or is there a catch that I'm missing?

I don't think that the value of the unpaid items is the amount that SP gets. 7bit does have a margin in there, just look at the discounts some people have gotten on their Round6 orders.
Regarding opening Phase2 kits for new orders, this might make sense for some core kits (alphas, tkl) but will always mean that more items need to be ordered with SP than people ordered with 7bit. I think they do multiples of 5 afaik ... So if three people order a TKL kit of a phase2 color, 7bit has to increase the order quantity by 5 and suddenly has two additional unpaid items on his list.
I still like the idea because it might help sell some less common keys along the way. Also grab bags should be a great idea but this can only be done once Phase1 has been shipped and "completed" otherwise 7bit might send out his emergency replacement keys ....

Also, surely just making more kits available doesn't resolve the problem. Sure you'll have more money, but it doesn't magically bring back all the money that has been absorbed into Phase 1. That money needs to come from existing stock or from someone's pocket. If more kits are added, it'll be the same as starting a Phase 3...

We need a solution here and I think 7bit should help with suggestions. Just sitting and waiting is not a solution and I'm getting slightly annoyed that I just payed for peoples phase-1 keys this is not acceptable at all!
So what is the best solution, im up for anything, but we need the hard facts.
Track down the old collectors? call paypal to unlock accounts that have been locked? split the money between phase-2-peeps? rebate GB Nr 7 and just push it forward?
What?

Agree wholeheartedly with this. This isn't going to resolve itself without some significant intervention.GriffDeLaGriff wrote:We need a solution here and I think 7bit should help with suggestions. I guess we could have a setup where alphas and mods are offered, on the condition that one also buys a grab bag to go with it. Like a Kinder Surprise Egg, only with keycaps!
But yeah, I kind of feel like I've done my part as well. I just don't see how what's left of R6 could possibly sell that well.

Whulp,
Is there a set production date or is it just a limbo of maybe we will produce these someday?

Limbo. With current SA queue, it'll be late 2017/early 2018 at best.RocketGruntJake wrote:

Chill. Wait. It'll come. There are still Round 5 kits available for sale, it's clear that not every last penny must be collected before SP will make the kits.
Just pay for your order.
@zslane - the Dasher & Dancer on Massdrop looks nice. I'm very interested in the Planck modifiers. I have a set of R6 white and R6 Black alphas. Which of the two available colours do you think would match either of those alpha sets better?

I think alphas and mods should be opened up at an increased price. No one's going to buy extras unless they can get a base kit to go along with it. Even if no one buys extras, the higher margins will eventually be enough to cover the extras.
