After trawling DT and GH, I cannot find a definitive guide, *with sound samples*, for how to mod the Black ALPS found on a Dell AT102W into more clicky ALPS (are these white ALPS? It's not very well explained, or maybe, as is often the case, there is too much detail, so it gets confusing).
I basically want to mod a test switch - a Black ALPS found in the AT102W, so that it has a more tactile click to it. Are there any sound samples around of a post-modded AT102W switch, modded in this way?
The only article I found was this one: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title= ... nts&page=4
Post #32, but there is no sound clip. Thanks
Black ALPS (AT102W) mod - how do I make these click more?

I've succesfully modded all keys of my AT102W using the geekhack guide (leaf folding), but I'm unable to record any sound samples of it because I don't have it atm.
However, if you just want your Dell to click, go for it. This is a very fun mod, the keys are a little less loud than on a buckling spring board and everyone who typed on it loved the sound and the feel.

I would seriously not do that, for the risk of borking the board- mine is now not nearly as fun to type on as it was when I got it, though partly due to me ofcourse. Tricky part is making sure these alps stay uniform across the board, and where I gave up
Even doing this mod I reckon makes the tactile point larger, due to the leaf bending as a whole before the slider slides past the tips, and prob as well with the pressure the points exert on the slider decreasing. Try it to understand what I mean without pics
Though do do it on your numpad just for k(l)icks.
The procedure is simple, just a bit labour intensive: there's 4 small tabs on the side of the actuator leaf (the one that is loose inside the key once you pop it open), the top two you can fold in so they won't be stabilising anymore, and then the leaf will create a click when pressured. It's kinda cool, just not quite.
