I like this keyboard a lot...cherry reds and NKRO FTW!
I like it EVEN MORE with these vintage doubleshots. Hoping to complete the bottom row with the GH SP group buy.

Once you reach several hundreds of boards, some just have to go. I am cleaning out most G81s, which happen to have the same case the G80s though. Once the keycaps are off and the cables are cut, there is not much left of value in these.Minskleip wrote:Why throw them away?
They basically are the same color as the keycaps, same case construction as your Cherry red board.keyboardlover wrote:Hmm...I'd be willing to pay. Got any photos?
I would suggest a G80/81-1000 case, basically cloned after the Model M case design and of very thick plastic and a stable construction:
http://keyboardporn.com/mx-switch/g80-1000-hfd/
Problem is most do not support windows keys, so you would have to dremel or knife off the extra plastic. I might still have a few grey 3000 series cases with windows keys too. If you really want one, I'll check the storage when I go the next time.

They are nice, but I don't have anything with which to replace them.sixty wrote:Once you reach several hundreds of boards, some just have to go. What kind of storage do you have? A container with keyboards instead of weapons?

Reds are the new blues. Not a lot of people have them, and many want them. I suspect they'll have the same shaped popularity curve, going high, but also falling after the new fashion switch kicks in (although it will not reach as high as the blues). I like 'em, but it's not a magic switch and many will find them too light.

I was thinking it'd be cool to have a keyboard with only reds on the home row and the rest clears. I imagine it'd feel nice.

Yea I guess on the pinkies would be ok...only thing I'm not a huge fan of is the red switch space bar. I love a nice clear switch for the space bar. It's kind of my dream to make (or get) a tenkeyless board like this...maybe someday

Nope. We don't do either at GH.sixty wrote:Two possible scenarios:
a) geekhack blocks all outside embedding of images
b) imav already blocked this site specifically (i doubt it)
BTW, nice site. It is good to see sites like this sprouting up. The main reason geekhack exists today is because I could find no such english-speaking site to participate in. The more sites like this, the better...it legitimizes the demand for quality input devices and, hopefully, will drive additional supply in the future!!

It seems to be that images (that were uploaded to the geekhack attachment system) can't be used outside of geekhack in general. I just tried with imgur.com upload by URL and it results in a 404.iMav wrote:Nope. We don't do either at GH.sixty wrote:Two possible scenarios:

Thanks! I agree. This is also what I wrote in my initial opening post to the site. Alternatives are nice to have around. Personally, geekhack nowadays mainly seems to attract newcomers who ask the same old questions all over again, which is why I figured a board with a slightly different goal would not be a bad thing. I saw the suggestion on geekhack for a "VIP" section, which I guess means that some other users feel it becoming "too crowded" aswell, however I found that to be the wrong way to go. Elitism within a community leads to failure.iMav wrote: BTW, nice site. It is good to see sites like this sprouting up. As for input devices in general.. looks like "we" (as in the English keyboard nuts) did quite a lot... Brian did bring it quite far and I'm pretty sure the GH community played a big role in that. Then there are all those new brands throwing out mechanical boards almost at a monthly base. Things are moving, and they can only become better than all the Logitech and other rubber dome junk we had on the market for the past decade. Of course the majority of people will continue to use crappy keyboards... but the situation is definitely improving.

I was once a new comer on GH...but glad I'm not soo much of a noob anymore...I agree with Sixty, having an exclusive part of the forum will either draw other member's curiosity of why they aren't part of it and what they can do to be apart of it...then the whole point of GH is trying to make the VIP team. Alas, that is the nature of human thinking.

I think I want a 3494 now.
I will put my Cherry doubleshots on it as well.
Seems like only armygroup has it in stock right now.

Alu ones are nice, but they do change the characteristics of the switches due to their weight.

Best blank keycaps are the Cherry official ones as seen in our header. Basically they have the characteristics of double shots anyway... about the same weight and thickness.
Some of the very best keycaps made in modern days, imo.

I think keyboardco still have them in stock(along with a G80-3000).sixty wrote:Not often anymore. They pop up sometimes on Taobao still, maybe once a month or so.
What I really don't like is that you can see where the keymounts are. Older Cherry keys had been much better in that way. Also, Signature Plastics keys haven't got this issue.
