Anyone have any idea about this funky looking switch in a Philips keyboard?

Looks like a rubber dome + plunger, but the design is interesting ...

Kinda cool actually. But yeah, the long centre on the caps looks like a plunger and those clips around it are very reminiscent of rubberdomes like on Apple's early 2000s desktop boards. Haven't seen 4 of them per cap, however. Seems well engineered!

The cap profile is interesting too.

Edit: Idiot that I am, I just realized that the listing says "rubber domes". Still, would like to hear about it if anyone has tried these particular ones.

FWIW, that guy on ebay has been trying to sell those keyboards for at least two months, if not more. So, if you were looking for an approximate value, I wouldn't use that ad as a guide.

I know the following about it:

The calculator is made by brother in japan and has the following model no.: 121DN
Switch cannot be newer than 1977, since the calculator design is from 1977
Switch is linear
Switch feels damped like Cherry MX Silent Red
Switch smoothness feels a bit more smooth than a cherry mx red, almost like a pre-lubed Kailh speed silver
If I put the keypad/keyboard next to my ear, I can hear some friction like cherry mx or other mechanical switches
Switch weighting is around 40gf to 50gf I think.
Switch is normally pressed and the external coil spring pushes the slider with the keycap out, so it comes depressed.
Switch mount is not MX compatible
Switch mount is vintage T mount alps compatible

The following two types of switches came to my mind: capacitive switches or reed switches

Those are ALPS SKFF switches. that explains why caps on later Silver Reed typewriters are compatible with that mount

Yeah, I have one of these too. Probably one of the nicer domes I've used (I think the fact the membrane is metal-backed helps with this a lot)

these are the actual switches themselves - but the top of the case has stem adapters mounted to it, which press on the actual switch, which seem to be microswitch sd mount..

the board is for a terminal which seems to come up under IP-1548/G

if there are any pictures that would be helpful, let me know. i can provide more.

That thing looks TEMPEST rated,so I'm going to guess it was added for EM shielding to prevent stray currents in the switch matrix.

Are these plate springs? I looked through the wiki and didn't see anything that had this exact look but plate spring was the closest
