So snarky  I wonder, does it ever get cold on the moral high ground?

Any idea why this fetched such a high price? I know the newer versions have alps neon green or brown but I couldn't find any info on this.

Xerox is pretty special in computing history even without rare alps switches.

I quit the auction when it's beyond $100 but Im shocked by the end deal price also, God damn it.

Probably it's with Hirose cherry swithes tho.

I won it. The main reason I bid so high is that I've always loved the Xerox Star keyboard with Hiroses, ever since kps first posted it here in 2014. I've never seen one show up for sale in all those years so when this jp version showed up I didn't want to let it slip through my fingers. I was expecting it to end lower too, I'm surprised at how high my competition bid.

I'll make sure to clean the keyboard up and document it here properly once it arrives. I don't know of anyone who's seen one of these versions before; I think it's a unicorn for the time being.

Congrats. We always pay much for what we eagerly want, thats not uncommon. I'm just lacking knowledge of this keeb and its history, but glad to know. Btw, its my second time to find keyboard with Fuji&Xerox logo there, last time its about 1.5ys ago, sold at a very low price if I remember correctly, but I'm focusing on IBM at that time so I didn't think its big deal and missed it. I know how stupid im now.

Looking forward to your sharing thread here. :)

Digging that split spacebar on the Xerox for sure! My bet is on something other than ALPS or Cherry Switches in it, but could be anything. It certainly has some nice aesthetics either way and would make a nice display piece even if not easily converted or fun to type on. Fingers crossed that it is both easily converted and fun to type on though!

The Fuji Xerox keyboards have found a place in my heart. I think they're really beautiful, I'd love to find more unique models someday. I got this one not long ago also. I'll try to document it at the same time as the J-Star. Don't kick yourself too much for missing out; they're pretty keyboards, but the one I have here has awful condition switches. I think the environments in which these were used wasn't conducive towards good switch condition

I'm betting on Hiroses, I'm about as sure as sure can be. Guess we'll find out soon enough. I'd love to adapt it, but I think I'd only do this with a custom PCB - I wouldn't want to modify any of the original parts in any way, except for perhaps desoldering and resoldering the switches. A drop in replacement PCB could work though.

This caught my eye. No clue what type of switch it uses, but it’s pretty:

Neon green alps? :ugeek:
I'm not 100% sure about it, but a quick search for Xerox keyboard popped up with them. But after looking more I think of this one wiki/Xerox_Star_low-profile_keyboard

Afteral, the price is reasonable? Even if it's just Hirose switch?

Since I won't get around to documenting it until I've restored it, I thought I'd just quickly mention: as I expected, it has Hirose MX. Oranges on the alpha cluster, browns (yes, Hirose browns) on the two spacebars and the enter. Most unexpectedly, the three other clusters all have a previously undiscovered one - Hirose reds, which are very heavily weighted.

The keyboard is overwhelming, it's even prettier than I expected it to be. It might even be my new favourite.

A week shipped to UK from JP, including JP domestic shipping time? What shipping service did you choose, and how about the cost?

A lot of shipping options are currently unavailable from Japanese proxies for reasons I don't understand but are related to corona so depending on how it shakes out some of the cheapest options aren't available presently and the next best thing is sometimes the quick option.

DHL Express. It arrived 2 days after it shipped. The cost was very reasonable, only $10-20 more than EMS. I would have got it much sooner, but their repackaging service spilled over into the weekend.
