for 30 i'm expecting a quantity that should last a life time. and the more we are willing to spend, then the more likely the group buy will even happen. also this is rare stuff, that you normally just get in huge containers. also if there's some leftover you can just resell it.

Got through to them 5 gallons would be around $350 plus shipping and tax. 5 gallons is there minimum order. By the way that would be around 25 litres.
EDIT: that seems very cheap, better confirm with him over email.

Did you get to ask them about shelf life? When buying in large quantity shelf life should be considered.fossala wrote:Got through to them 5 gallons would be around $350 plus shipping and tax. 5 gallons is there minimum order.
About pricing,
RO-59:
http://www.tafco.co.jp/RO-59_260ml.html
about 3000 JPY for 260mL (about 31 EUR)
Krytox GPL103
http://www.miller-stephenson.com/
around 200 USD for 500g(volume should be about 260mL) (about 162 EUR)
(they only sell to businesses or academic institutions)

They have pretty good pricing for Krytox grease and they say they carry oils too.
I don't know about European sources, but at least you can get some idea on prices.

I think getting RO-59 would be cheapest if I can buy strait from them (looks like we can). As for krytox gpl103, will keep looking around it seems to be a lot more expensive than ro-59 so we would need to make sure everybody will be happy with the quantity they get.Limmy wrote:Did you get to ask them about shelf life? 5 gallons seem to be too much though.. not to mention resulting international shipping cost.
Split it to 100 people and you will get 180mL. 50mL is already pretty large quantity and we are not very sure whether it would be good after few years.

AFAIK you need someone to proxy this from Japan.
260ml bottle of RO-59 is more like 4000 JPY shipped to Japan.
2940 + shipment: 525 + tax: 525
The cost of EMS to EU is around 1500-1800 JPY.

Ask them why the 5 gallon doesn't compute as discussed earlier... might not be 5 gallon, only the container? I agree we probably don't need that much anyway (depends on price of the smaller quantities which are relatively much more expensive), but I'm curious about the anomaly.

I'd be in for the RO-59 for 25€ shipped. I can't afford getting both, and I feel like I get a lot more lube for the money with the RO-59. If there happens to be a price reduction on the Krytox (by buying 5 gallons for the whole group or whatever) I might consider switching over.

We need people to try all the wierd stuff and report back !
I would but i am unsure how to open an ml, i also would only use it to test on the ML as i am quite happy with the feel of MX ( i like ML too but was just wondering)
now lubbing my complicated white alps that's something to think about
£30 hmm i will have to think about it as that money could go on round 4

No matter what you do, I will definitely try lubing ML switches, I know how to open them (it's not that hard actually) and have two G84 Boards, so I don't have to experiment with my daily carry-around-board (I really fell in love with the G84-4100SPAUS I got from modulor. Cherry Dye Subs are definitely the best keycaps I know, and the layout is nearly perfect.)andrewjoy wrote: I would but i am unsure how to open an ml, i also would only use it to test on the ML as i am quite happy with the feel of MX ( i like ML too but was just wondering)

sepa is € to €. it's unlikely that there won't be a conversion charge for € to gbp.
the 350$ for 19liters sounds good. i dunno what taxes there will be but assuming 19% vat and current dollar-euro-conversion it'd be 4.6€ for 260ml. the jap price is insane.
guess i'd be willing to pay 10-15€ for 250ml ro-59 (incl taxes, excl shipping).

I don't really see the point of getting that much lubricant, as really 1-2 ml is all you need to lube a full keyboard.
Besides you need to dilute that quantity by 1:1 with distilled water. So you will end up with 38 liters of RO 59 KT.
Also according to Tafco it has only 1 year shelf life.

Well, this raises the question of whether it only has a service life of one year and will need reapplied annually.RiGS wrote:I don't really see the point of getting that much lubricant, as really 1-2 ml is all you need to lube a full keyboard.

ah, i should've worded my post better: i'd pay 0.04-0.06€ per ml incl taxes, excl shipping. the jap price is 0.11€ per ml (don't know about taxes) which is twice as much as i'd pay. no definite quantity yet.RiGS wrote:I don't really see the point of getting that much lubricant, as really 1-2 ml is all you need to lube a full keyboard.
