Dammit, only US based? Why would I have to buy keycaps which were produced in Germany from a US based retailer (like EK), and pay huge shipping and customs costs? Wouldn't a Germany based, Europe centered retailer make more sense?

Sure, 7bit productions will soon have GMK key caps in stock!

I think they mean something like "we have a US based customer who does custom orders and will sell these at retail" kind of thing.

And 7bit, you should start a keyboard shop. Oh wait, you have already done that, through this forum's PM system. ;)

US retailer stocks them, they will offer what they are most likely to sell. It's simple logic. That doesn't mean you are obligated to buy them. Instead of complain, go to work to get some EU retailer to stock sets in your relevant language.

Minimum order depends on what you want to order said GMK. Assuming EK had their full stock in the inventory system the stock was 1000, so that may be a good guess at how many units we may be looking at to get production. Could be need 1000 keys total, or 1000 of that specific key. More will be known soon. We will be putting together couple theoretical set to submit for quote and see what it comes out to.

<quoted pic removed>
The only problem with some of the cool legends on the G80-2551 is, that Cherry never created them as Doubleshots. All of the blue legends, and some of the black ones (like my beloved "Datenfreigabe") are pad printed.
Actually I didn't mean the blue legends, but the symbols in the arrow section. They are doubleshots.

This is exiting! I'm looking forward to an upcoming group buy. I hope sv/fi layout will be offered. I think having the wrong labels on the keys is worse than having no labels or random symbols as it's disinformation. The function of the labels (to indicate what happens when you push the key) is important to me. It would be worth it to pay extra to get my ÅÄÖ.

Yes you're right. I know where Ö is but I actually look at the number key sometimes. But I still want the correct labels on all keys to be totally satisfied.

You don't even say 'å' in Finnish anyway, do you? :)

I need it so I can write "Ååååååååååååååååh" more easily. :>:>

After thinking about it for a bit, I was thinking to roll the following languages into sets
DK/GB/NO/SF/US
CH/DE/HU/SK/TS
ES/IT/PO (also include South American ES/PO variants)
BE/FR
Some compromises may need to be made with non alphas not getting nationalized. Do you think these groupings are reasonable? If not please offer suggestions and reasons.

Looks good to me :) I'm just happy you're seeing this through for us.

I noticed some noise on geekhack about sets already heading to USA? Was that elitekeyboards?

here is my suggestion, find a people in the EU and ordered the bottom rows (both ansi and iso), caps lock and whatever shit from GMK. It would be faster and better!

When it comes to logistics, I think we will have an EU partner recieve the shipment, take out all the sets for the Americas and send them to me, take out all the sets for Asia region and send them to Asia partner. Working together like this will be more efficient I agree.

DK/GB/NO/SF/US should be right under 40 extra caps if you use UK layout. But this set would be good for me as I've been interested in starting to use UK layout for programming and such.

looks like it could work, depending on what you mean with compromises :-)

We could have a common base sett that is common to all layouts and add-ons for ansi, DK/GB/NO/SF/US i.e.

Most of compromise will likely revolve around having common keys for the non alphas like the nav keys and etc, to reduce the amount of keys and complexity. But it all depends on price. If it does not add very much to the set, we can go ahead and include such nationalized version of those keys.

With navkeys being in English I have no problems, but please do proper number rows!

I actually prefer "Pg Up" to "Bild [arrow up]"

Shipping from Germany is unbeatably inexpensive!

We can ship worldwide for what you can ship within the US.

So I suggest direct shipment!

:-)

BTW: I suggest to use the more commonly used language kit codes:
UK (instead of GB)
FI (instead of SF)
CZ (instead of TS, if you mean Tschechoslowakei)
PT (instead of PO)

Missing: SE, SI, COLEMAK, DVORAK, BEPO, 7BIT, NEO.

Sure, it just depend on how much work one or a few people want to do I suppose. As one that has done buys before, I feel packing orders and mailing them out is the hardest part of a groupbuy and can be exhausting. I was just thinking it might be better to spread some of that work out.

I'm just trolling!

But seriously shipping the whole bunch to a different location (like with Round 4) is not so good, becuase you involve more shipping costs and customs fees.

IvanIvanovich

04 Dec 2012, 22:15

I've never had customs fee in US, think cost need to be valued over $5000 or something then it's considered commercial, not sure about elsewhere but yes that can be a concern. Having someone reship instead of GMK send direct to US it would be easy to circumvent that problem.

There are many languages that I have left out, some of them I am trying to decide on best grouping still. Also some are likely to have a quite small user base so some might be left out for the first go around.

Another thing, is I won't be including all manner of odd keysizes. Primary target will be that of G80-3000, with 1800 as a secondary consideration as some other board also make use of 1.75 shift and 1x modifier like Choc mini, kit boards and so on. We won't be making concessions for non standard stuff like 3x spacebars, 1.25 enter keys and other oddities.

IvanIvanovich

05 Dec 2012, 02:23

Since full sets are a ways off since GMK can't fit any large orders like that into their production schedule until spring, we will be going ahead with some smaller modifier packs and a few single keys. Currently we are looking into running some things with these colors:
Image

CMYK set since RGB has been done to death, and the other colors brown, green, and purple with white legend or vice versa for modifier pack which will consist of esc, tab, caps lock, shifts, ctrls, alts, wins, menu, enter, backspace. Mod packs will include ISO and ANSI options, both stepped and fulltouch caps lock and 1.5, 1.25 and 1x for bottom row.
