I know it doesn't interest anyone here but those tapes and manuals are actually worth a lot of money. Hopefully the potential buyer doesn't think the 5100 is in the auction (it is clearly stated) but they could fetch that money and then some.

Post from Eric/Riptide666 - a fellow Smashvillian so I thought I'd share. Not sure what switches though. I'm guessing white.

I strongly considered it. I have two AEK IIs that I swapped the cream damped switches for orange, so I eventually said "skip." It was actually the right choice, as I was able to get two other nice KBs for $50 offers.jbtb077 wrote: ↑28 Mar 2021, 06:59It soldddrfraser1 wrote: ↑28 Mar 2021, 00:19It’s stupidly difficult to resist the urge to buy this even though I already own 2
I wonder if it was someone on here who bought it.
Oh. Count me in for another Northgate Omni. And two more Focus KBs.
I've gotta start repairing and selling more stuff.

You people need to stop hating on F&F. The very early versions can be quite good. Key feel is mostly dominated by the spring, with a "cushioned" bottoming out (given you replaced the pads, of course). But yeah, those Compaq XT boards aren't too great.

$100 IBM 5150 with monitor and Model F AT keyboard!
Doesn't boot, but that's generally easy to fix.

Wow. Blue alps owners: are they $800-900 better than white alps?vdublove37 wrote: ↑31 Mar 2021, 20:22It's starting to look like that DC-3014 that went last night for $960 was a legit bid

I'd like to point out that the price is indeed insane, but the reason partially is the fact that is like a DC-2014 (great build, Alps doubleshots, NKRO) but in a standard layout. So it seems like kind of a grail board, for blue alps at least.raoulduke-esq wrote: ↑31 Mar 2021, 20:32Wow. You can get nkro, white alps, ansi, and doubleshot caps from an omnikey 101. I do think the DC-3014 looks better and has nicer caps but definitely not $800-900 better than the omnikey.

The Omni 101s had bottom cases that were plastic. I think the last gen 102 Ultras and/or the Avant Stellars had a metal bottom case, macro functionality, all the fun Ultra extra keywork, a nice looking badge, AND Windows keys. However, simplified white Alps, so yank 'em out and install blues. Or put blues in a bigfoot case, like the Dell 101s. Then you can get custom keycaps from Tai-Hao.
A large percentage of 1st gen gold badge Omni Key 102s (yes, with a space) had blue Alps, but not all, so be wary.
I saw this Chicony 5160 blue Alps 'board the other day. $190 + shipping, so $230 US. I have a blue Alps Chicony 5161, so I can confirm they're nice, even though they have snaps (and screws). Pity the 5160 is missing one key cap because the others have Arabic legends.
If the 5161 I have wasn't in such nice shape, I'd probably put the switches in a OmniKey 102 case. I have a few of those.
Anyhow, I have been experimenting with early white Alps switches and installing 55cN Sprit springs in them. They don't feel exactly like blues, but I think they might be better than whites. It'll be a while before I can complete this experiment. And, even if I can't, no, I don't think blues are $800 better than early whites.

The Quotron has been listed for at least two months. I do think it's pretty, but I'd like to know what kind of switches it has.vdublove37 wrote: ↑31 Mar 2021, 17:36Not sure if these have been posted here already, but he we go:

Thanks mate! Yeah the Quotron has been up for a while, I tried to find info on the switches but no luck here on DT. The black Focus was originally listed for something like $150 but I guess the seller figured out what he had and relisted at nearly $200 more I believe.hellothere wrote: ↑31 Mar 2021, 23:34The Quotron has been listed for at least two months. Yah. When you have something somewhat unique, it's hard to price it, especially if you're trying "Buy it Now."vdublove37 wrote: ↑31 Mar 2021, 23:40The black Focus was originally listed for something like $150 but I guess the seller figured out what he had and relisted at nearly $200 more I believe.
I really don't like the "grey" lock light sticker and the function key sticker. I wonder if the black lock-light sticker from Unicomp would fit. Maybe there's a thread here telling you how to make one. Hmm.
Oh. If "vdub" is referring to VWs, I've had several. I think think the oldest was a 1960s Type I ("Beetle") and the newest was a 1980s Rabbit diesel. I'm not a gearhead. I've just owned way too many cars.
