Lets screw all these back !

Screwing the sandwich back on and such is easier if you prepare yourself a custom piece of carton like the one phosphor_glow used here (fast forward to 1:57).

While I'm at it, I'll take this chance to thank him for the great vid, as it allowed me to do my first bolt mod. One minor detail though: cheese screws are too tight for the holes on the bottom row - if you go for those, the sandwich will barely fit under the bottom ends in the lower casing because of the screws' head protruding from the back plate. I did my mod that way, but next time I'll try harder to source some conical screws to alliviate the pressure there. I wouldn't recommend cheese head screws for this mod at all.

That laptop uses almost the exact same casing as my X61s, why does nobody make proper sub notebooks like this anymore?

They are tight, but there is no problem in getting the set back in the case.
Your option of using different screws is fine. One could also remove them completely. Makes no difference

Done.

What have we learned today ?

- It is possible to screwmod repair 3 SSKs in 6 hours
- Membranes break and can be repaired
- The battery of my X201 running debian 8 last just enough to report the process (I still have 1h left !)
- i$ repair prices are cheap :-)

and ... that when three SSKs are travelling together in the same box, they may have fun and give birth to the future FSSK :D

Do you take orders?

Agreed. But good thinks may take it.

Not at this price :-)
But if someone is interested to pay my time at least at the rate that I pay to my cleaning lady, feel free to PM me.
A pre-condition is to be a DT member. hammelgammler knows this condition already ;)

Lenovo makes good laptops still, not as good as this x201.
If someone is interested in one, second hand at approx 300euros, these guys are near by my place: http://www.lap-works.de
They sell stuff from companies that leased computers.

The good thing is that it is close to me. I could take a look at your computer before it is shipped. Even send you some pictures.

I have nothing to do with these guys. I just bought a couple of things from them. They are friendly and can speak (some) English.

Once the case is open, the Function rows of an M goes out with your hand. Same with the number row.
After this one, I use a latte macchiato spoon to push the keys up. I use the barrels to pull up. They are shifted so one can take two keys at a time. I normally undo the full row and then remove the keycaps.

I always keep them ordered in a flat surface. I hate looking for keys !

The spoon can be used also on a mounted keyboard. It fits between the keycaps so they can be pulled up.

Another advantage is that with double part keycaps, the two parts come out simultaneously.

Which screws did you use? How big are the holes you drilled?

Some years back, everybody did nut and bolt mod. I kind if don't see this anymore... Is this here so much better?

Snoopy,

THIS post from Madhias is the answer to all your questions. Thanks once more to Madhias !! He could have paid a full keyboard with the screw samples that he ordered to come to the ones that I am using now. Thanks !

I have used the first screws in this picture, the ones reading 400 Stück:

Image

The BIG advantages of screws are the following:
  • 1.- There is no need to work on both sides of the board, reducing the risk of accidentally moving a flipper.
2.- It is possible to "bend" the barrels board to its final position without moving it (read my post in this thread on the order to use)
3.- Simpler as there are not washers not bolts
    4.- Faster
I make 1,5 mm holes for this type of screws.
