I believe so yes, ITW magnetic valve second generation. Very smooth!jsheradin wrote: ↑30 May 2022, 22:37The Phoenix Jr is such a neat board! The whole word processor/terminal is just weird looking. I almost grabbed the one that was on ebay recently but the price tag was eye-watering.
It has ITW intermediate mag-valve switches right?

This week's work set-up. HHKB running PhotoShop/personal system duty. Then, finally, daily driving My Model M.
This M was the first vintage board I bought, along with a Dell Bigfoot. This IBM was in quite a state when I got it. I've been buying parts and repairing it for some time. I made the decision to cushion mod this board too, which led me down a further rabbit hole. But finally, although it still ain't done, I have this board up and running. Thanks to the many people of here that either sold me parts to repair this or indeed helped me get it back to a working state with your knowledge.
It ain't anything exotic, like some of the beauties we have, but it's kind of a "proud dad moment", finally having this in circulation.

I know that feeling. Surely most of us do. The ones which take the longest feel the most satisfying to complete. It’s a human thing.

A dream came true, my tactile typing orgasm. HHKB Professional JP from 2009, a PD-KB420W, bought via buyee.jp which is a very good proxy. Modded with Deskeys Topre MX Silders and Cherry Vintage SAD Alphas. Shift, Space and Enter have kept their original stabilizers especially because I don't have a 2.5u space keycap with MX mount lying around.

Okay, So this is one of my favourite boards in my collection. I see that the general consensus on Acer switches is kinda meh, but you like what you like.

I have the same model - same language/layout, even - and it's a great one! I quite like the Acer switches.mrprofessor wrote: ↑22 Jun 2022, 21:36Okay, So this is one of my favourite boards in my collection. I see that the general consensus on Acer switches is kinda meh, but you like what you like.
However, as someone (Mu?) recently pointed out, the roll-over is not amazing.

There is an electronics recycler/prop house near me in LA and i found this guy and a lite-on board with white alps. They were sitting outside in a pile of keyboards that have clearly been baking in the sun for a long time. The blacks in this guy are surprisingly smooth still, it was missing one of the f keys on the left.
I think its a G80-0528

'Ninetykeyless' KB-5640.
Just a numpad, probably made by Chicony (the sticker doesn't tell that explicitly). I liked the three-grey colour scheme.

Pretty nice actually. Much better legends than the “90%” beside it. I think they ought to Pause the machine a minute and InS the right values.

I know, I know... Fortunately I don't have to look at it while typing.
Don't blame Europeans or Americans for not knowing how to correctly print Chinese letters.
Having the remaining 90% of this KB-5640 would be nice.

Oh, come on, you don’t even need to be able to read those letters to see how janky and out of alignment they are. My Chinese is no worse! Can’t understand a single character of it, but should be able to confidently align the bottom and weight and the top of the glyphs in any case.
Anywho, Chickeny knew how to get it right. No complaints there. Sterling legends and an elegant colourway.

Do you know what those keycaps are? I don't think I see this profile very often.

It’s unusual, right enough. Cylindrical but uniform row profile. The top edges are a bit convex rather than the usual concave you’ll see on IBM and Cherry cylindrical caps. Overall they seem to be going for that nice distinctly low Cherry profile—the low riding deep dish F and J are nice—but the top edge is definitely a different choice. Remind me a bit of the old aluminium PowerBook caps I used for donkey’s years. Always liked those.

they are pretty thick and 2shot, although im not sure if it would make a different soundwise in that chassis if that wouldnt be the case.

Nice, I had the "other" Futaba version of the 5160, with MX mount MA switches and "normal" keycaps. I felt bad about killing it off, since it was like new, but nobody spoke up when I offered it here. I ended up using the plate and PC board as a donor for a Franklin FKB-3, still have the Chicony case and caps if anyone wants them. Futaba MA switches just make me happy, I don't know why.doomsday_device wrote: ↑18 Jul 2022, 20:13nos futaba ma chicony 5160

Printed caps, nothing special. Chicony was mostly bottom end stuff. But that was before The Cheapening, so even a vintage Chicony is better than most of what came later. The tombstone caps definitely have much more character and visual appeal.

I've seen mention in the wiki, but here are a couple of rough pics. Outside of the rectangular badge, it's a pretty standard M.

So envious of that space!
Nice collection, artfully presented. I’d see to a crop of it for the DT header but those are still beyond my reach.
