Their website says it is rubber dome, but why does it have removable caps and sliders then?

Weird. Looks like decent build quality and good layout. How is the feel? Similar to while alps or Montereys?

To the touch is clicky but softer than Alps, similar to SMK blues, but the sound it makes is very close to skcm white/blues, really really good. I will probably make a video comparing the sound of both switches.

Impressive considering it seems to be a knock off. Looking forward to the comparison vid. Compare to matias and monterey too if you have any

Could the ACK-700 be a slider over dome switch? the slider doesn't look similar to anything i've ever seen.

SMK inverse cross, right? Any good? Are SMK sensitive to dust (like, is a NOS one the best you can get)?

Be aware that's a special version of the Datadesk, as evidenced by the label and the odd 8 pin DIN connector. My guess (and it's only that) would be that it's for a Tandy 2000.

edit: that should probably read Tandy 1000 instead.

Pretty sure all G80 3000 had either MX or MY, so yes, it is mechanical.

Yes, it should have Cherry MX switches, I'd guess black. They aren't super vintage though, being made in 1999.

This keyvoard is for an IBM 4683 POS system, what I'm wondering is, is it anything special, or just a rubberdone?

you should open them, look at the model number written in the pcb and update the wiki. Switches on the top one are Fujitsu Leaf spring 2nd generation and bottom are 3rd gen.

If I get Access to give me ANY information on this and the Trouble key is yours. Never figured to ask them directly because it's not a retail board. I'll keep you updated!

Hello folks,

this keyboard is the reason I registered, i just wanna know more about it, its merits and how to do it justice.

I recently got into thrifting for old hardware and build myself a windows 98 PC, so i can tinker a bit with old hardware and games. Ofc the PC is turning into a exibit piece, and thats where this keyboard comes in.

Its not just any keyboard but a suprising find in my parents house. Its a tool of my late father, who was some sort of earned journalist in Würzburg, Germany. I recall him as always stressed, this keyboard still reaks of his overboarding smoking habits. It works fine, I cant find any flaws. I assume he just put it aside at some point, deemed it outdated.

Its not at all from the age that i am familiar with, the one that has windows key. I understand its an AT keyboard with nice mechanical cherry switches. The keys are easy to remove and clean (which i did with the numpad) i dont really plan to open the case for further cleaning. AEG is a well respected company but not for computer hardware, so the label is an eyecatcher. Im lucky there is still the 5Pin adapter attached.

So is this the quality keyboard it seems to be, or more an average product of its time? What was its time?
Can its worth be put into numbers?

The yellow keys are itching me to dip my feet into retrobright adventures, do you guys think thats a terrible idea?
The case and the greyer keys seem to have no signs of yellowing.
There is some black stains close to the AEG logo i would like to rub off, i did so on other parts of the case. Is the aeg print prone to damage?

1. Your keyboard is obviously a straightforward Cherry G80-1000 with an AEG Olympia branding, the real giveaway being the Cherry-label size of the recess on the back.
2. I don’t think i is worth very much, but there are certainly people who would buy it just in order to desolder the swithches, as vintage black switches are some sort of (in my eyes undeserved) hype. It would be a pity to destroy such a nice collector’s item.
3. I wouldn't attempt retrobrighting without having first acquired some retrobrighting experience with completely worthless stuff.
   Alternatively, you can simply replace the badly yellowed caps with less yellowed ones, which are quite easy to find.
4. To eliminate the black stains near the logo, you can use a Q-tip moistened with (not soaked in) ispropanol* - gently rub without touching the logo and wipe dry with a kitchen tissue
   *not the 70% solution sold under the Hetterich brand in German pharmacies (which by the way is a perfect disinfectant against Covid-19), but pure stuff, which your pharmacy will sell you for a few Euros, perhaps asking first what you need it for because of other possible usages
