If that's possible then that's what I would do, never officially / legally exit the EU. Of course Brussels would go ballistic over this...but who cares.

It's a fantasy, it doesn't work like that. You can't have a buildup to a vote by the population about staying or leaving for years, and then brush the result aside because the losing minority doesn't like it. I'd love Labour or the Tories to try it though, it would be absolute political suicide. Which is why they won't. The last thing they want is elections at this time. And if there would be one, they'll be respecting the referendum results. Like Cameron did in his speech.

That's right no one would dare ignore the entire Brexit situation now, London is "playing" for time now which is understandable.

Just stating the facts, sorry if that makes me an extremist. I'm not saying "ignore the referendum" but that's what they COULD do and currently do. It's OXI all over again. You let the people vote and the politicians are too whimpy to follow through..
Edit: To me it just appears like the UK government is currently trying to buy time to find a way out of this. The whole Article 50 thing takes 2 years and it doesn't change much if they call it now or in a few weeks. But keeping the option to stay just shows how desperate they are for a way out. Camerons resignation for OCTOBER just perfectly fits. If he just wanted to admit his defeat, he could have resigned immediatly and let someone take over who pulled the trigger. Instead he's just buying time ...

By the way,
you can trust politicians to do anything, absolutely anything, if they think the situation requires it.
Positive example:
Merkel having just backtracked on the termination of nuclear energy decided upon by the previous government,
and then after Fukushima deciding to terminate nuclear energy after all
Negative example:
Merkel attempting to legally define Algeria, Morocoo and Tunesia as safe third countries
where by definition asylum seekers can be sent back to without much ado
I don’t think a future UK government is going to just ignore the Brexit vote,
but… well… you know, imperatives… contingencies… new circumstances… imponderables…

While I congratulate Iceland with the second Brexit, it would be nice of them of stay out of our territorial waters.

That's for when all of the large tech companies inevitably pull out of the UK and go to Ireland.7bit wrote: ↑What is Google doing at the new border?
On a serious note, it's not quite that simple photekq. The word around the time of the Scottish independence vote was very much along the lines of "stay in the UK, or else you can't be assured a place in the EU". Now things have significantly changed. I would be fully in support of a second Scottish independence referendum with this in mind.
I do hope that Scotland and Northern Ireland can resolve their issues. Particularly Northern Ireland. The Troubles were so recent in our minds in Ireland that it's inconceivable to me that there'll yet again be an iron wall between the North and the Republic. Truly sad for Ireland. I can only hope that this doesn't set things too far back for us and our family just over the UK border.

As an outside observer with no real stake in the conflict, it is hard for me to understand why there is a "Northern Ireland" at all.scottc wrote: ↑

If an Englishman didn't want to be Irish, then why is he on the island?
Scottish independence I can understand fairly easily, Quebec independence, not so much.
I guess you "just have to be there"
PS - I had strong Confederate sympathizers on one branch of my family, but that seems quaint and silly to me now

Oh yeah great point when is Switzland finally limiting migration from EU countries as decided in a referendum? Funny how the LEAVE campaign has promoted a similair relationship to the one Switzerland has yet Switzerland finds itself incapable of limiting EU migration even though it's been decided by a legally binding referendum.tentator wrote: ↑lol.. but yes indeed.. I guess Switzerland will soon learn how to handle the EU properly when the UK not only reaches the same priviledged position of Switzerland but one that where they can dictate one-sided agreements.

The English conquered Ireland, and then sent a bunch of Anglican colonists to live there. The Irish were understandably none too happy at the conquest of their homeland, so there was lots of fighting between the Anglican colonists and the displaced Irish Catholics, and bad blood on both sides. It’s now been several hundred years, so it’s not like all the protestants in Northern Ireland can just abandon their homes and move to England.
This is sort of like asking “If an Israeli doesn’t want to be Palestinian, why doesn’t he just go back to Europe where his ancestors lived?”

Bounce back a bit and then go down again when there is more panic, then back up again ..... crazy system.
GBP has slightly recovered against USD still lower than even the lowest point on Friday.
Things are still fucked just 1% less fucked than they where.
Nothing we can do about it now , lets just watch it all burn and then watch them squirm when they can no longer blame there fuck ups on the EU.

Turns out England is just as full of racist/xenophobic bigots as anywhere else, and now they feel empowered to act out their hatred in public:
http://bigstory.ap.org/article/dd4daabd ... sult-sinks
Of course, Nigel Farage is shocked, shocked, that anyone would think Brexit was about racism.
Yay humanity.
