Cherry MX clone
This article is a stub. You can help Deskthority by expanding it.
Cherry MX clone refers to a switch that is a drop-in replacement for a Cherry MX switch, i.e. it shares the same PCB, plate and keycap dimensions as a real Cherry MX switch.
As Cherry MX style switches are one of the most common types of mechanical switches widely available, many other manufacturers have made clones of the form factor that Cherry MX switches are. Most clones are drop in replacements for Cherry MX switches, meaning that they can be substituted for Cherry MX style switches in any keyboard. Prolific Cherry MX clone brands include Gateron and Kailh. Although generally not sold separately the gaming company Razer also uses MX style switches in many of their mechanical keyboards.
