USB Keypad Num Lock and Clear (0x53)

The Clear key erases everything on screen or in the current input field.

On Macintosh, the Clear key is in the top/left corner of the numeric keypad. On USB keyboards, it overloads the Num lock key position, with the meaning depending on what kind of host it is connected to (Mac or PC).

The USB standard supports a dedicated Clear key (0x9C) but support is unusual. Linux's USB HID-class driver even rejects keyboards that represent the key using a dedicated bit in its protocol.

In Unix terminals, the Clear Screen function is often available on Control + L.

On some vintage platforms such as Commodore 64 and Atari ST, the CLR key's function is found on Shift + Home (and it also moves the cursor to the home position).
