A Delete key deletes a character next to the cursor.
On the PC, the Delete key erases forwards whereas "Backspace" erases backwards.
On many other platforms, the key named Delete erases backwards and there is often no forward-Delete key: See Backspace key.
If the Delete (Backwards) key is named ""Delete" and a Delete (Forward) key is present (such as on Macintosh), then the latter typically has a symbol instead of text.
Whichever key is named "Delete" is typically also used for deleting a selected entry, regardless of which direction in which it would erase text.
