Jog/shuttle dial
A jog/shuttle dial (jog wheel, jog dial, shuttle wheel, shuttle dial, etc.) is a is a type of knob for controlling direction and speed for playback of audio or video media. The words "jog" refers to slow speed and "shuttle" refers to fast speed.
A jog/shuttle wheel can rotate only a certain amount in each direction (typically 90° forwards or backwards from centre) and is spring-loaded to provide increasing resistance and to be self-centring. In that way it functions as a self-centring one-axis joystick.
It is often combined with a free-turning knob in the centre for fine linear control relative to the current frame position. There is often a dimple for the user's finger in the knob. Some dials without a knob also have a dimple.
The dial is often surrounded by buttons with fixed functions.
