A pointing stick is a compact alternative to a trackball or trackpad. It takes the form of a miniature isometric joystick the height of a keycap covered in a rubber grip, placed in the centre of the keyboard. Gentle pressure of the finger against the trackpoint moves the cursor in the direction of pressure.
Pointing sticks are typically found in higher end laptops, but there are also desktop keyboards with pointing sticks.
