RISC OS is an operating system created by Acorn in the late 80s for their Archimedes range of ARM-based computers. (The Archimedes was the original computer for which the ARM, or Acorn RISC Machine, CPU was originally created.) Originally named Arthur, it was renamed to RISC OS with version 2.
Although Acorn has long since ceased to exist, RISC OS continues to be maintained by other companies. It has got a revival in recent years as one of the OS options for the Raspberry Pi single-board computer series.
RISC OS is notable for some of the most intelligent mouse utilisation of any graphical system ever developed.
