Introduction

Rapoo V500 is an affordable tenkeyless (TKL) keyboard that is fully programmable.

Characteristics

Among the strengths of Rapoo V500 are:

  • very affordable gaming mechanical TKL keyboard;
  • all keys on the keyboard are programmable (every single key, combination keys and/or macro keys);
  • on-board memory can save the desired configuration; and
  • keyboard firmware can be updated via Rapoo website

Same as Rapoo KX or Rapoo V7, Rapoo V500 comes with Kaihua yellow, blue, black or brown switches. The switches may be branded as PG1511, Kailh, or Rapoo[Citation needed]. The feel and performance of Kaihua yellow switches is in between Kaihua (Kailh) Red and Black switches, but closer to Kaihua Red switches.

Reception

Rapoo V500 "... is a bit of a letdown. Rapoo has eschewed the ever popular Cherry mechanical keys in favour of ‘Yellow’ switches from Kailh. Unfortunately the key action is an uncomfortable mix of shallow travel and muddy feedback", as PC & Tech Authority writes[1].

However, on the other side, the above review was written before the blue brown and black switch variants were released and in any case it'd be a challenge to find a better gaming, fully programmable, mechanical TKL for less. In fact, Rapoo V500, as the V7 before it, goes beyond a typical "entry-level" mechanical keyboard while being affordable for many.
