A soft key is a key whose function is defined by the software currently being used. Function keys are an example of soft keys.
Some devices with integrated screens have soft keys near the screen edge where the functions of these keys appear. Examples of these devices are mobile phones or terminals for a specific purpose, such as automated teller-machines.
