Proposed for deletion
Deskthority is a wiki about keyboards and related tech, not about operating systems or even to tell how to change your keyboard config in <insert OS here>. No matter what you write on this article, NOBODY will care because there are a myriad more authorized sources to know about X than a keyboard forum. --Tactica (talk) 10:51, 23 January 2018 (CET)
- To my mind, the scope of the wiki is computer input devices, spanning from the theory and practice of the electronics and mechanics of input sensing, through the business of making and selling the hardware (and the businesses who did and do), to the end user experience and how to make the most out of it. The operating system that you use makes a big difference in terms of how you are able to enhance your experience, in terms of the native functionality offered and the third-party facilities available. The idea of deleting something from the wiki simply because the community is stubborn and lazy would mean deleting half the wiki, because there are plenty more pages that are woefully unfinished or unauthoritative. The big advantage of having pages here is that they can be interlinked with other articles. There is a time for futzing around and deleting everything in sight, but a greater need for more material and more complete material, and that should be the focus here. - The purpose of an input device is for interaction with a system. Every device was designed for a specific context, and many, especially keyboards, were designed for the X Window System in particular. That is one reason for having this page. It was created from red links on other pages, BTW. Next, about the content: how to set layout and remap keys is a huge topic that often comes up in the keyboard forums that this Wiki serves — and that is why I think that is relevant for this Wiki. Personally, I think that the Wiki could get better at that. If you disagree with about what the Wiki is for, then choosing yourself to mark a page for Deletion in a corner of the Wiki is not the correct course of action: That is something that should be discussed in the forum where everyone can see and participate! But yes, we should of course keep the non-input device-related content to a minimum. Findecanor (talk) 01:19, 2 February 2018 (CET)
- If marking a page for deletion is not the correct course of action because it needs discussion first, removing the template without doing so is, by definition, just as wrong. Besides, as I added the template I didn't log "This page is going to be deleted". The very title of this section should be clear enough.
