Introduction

EDIUS keyboards are made by Topre for Grass Valley. Grass Valley are a solutions provider specialising in media processing, broadcasting and teleproduction. Their software product, EDIUS, is used for editing in media production environments. There are other companies that make EDIUS keyboards and adhesive legends designed to place on a standard keyboard, but this topic will only cover Topre branded EDIUS keyboards.

Appearance

The Topre EDIUS keyboards are essentially rebranded Realforce keyboards with custom colour-coded keycaps and printed legends corresponding to actions performed in the EDIUS software editor. There are two known variants of the Topre EDIUS keyboard and they are basically identical in appearance, including the colour of the keycaps and their printed legends. The only known difference is the font used for the word 'EDIUS' on the LED indicator plate.

The two known models are the EDKEY2 (EDIUS Keyboard II) and the EDIUSV6KB (EDIUS Keyboard III). The latter is known to have uniformly weighted 45cN Topre switches. One interesting feature present on both keyboards is that the Windows and Menu/Application keys share the same profile as a row 'C' (A,S,D,F...) keycap. It is not known why this is the case, but it could perhaps be to reduce the chance of accidentally pressing these keys.
