Description
The Unitech K959 is part of an LCD-286 portable computer and keyboard where the keyboard latches into the computer by those four holes at the bottom front case and is carried around as a case. The keyboard is AT/XT switchable. The short spiral DIN connector cable is stored in the top case so the keyboard would fit inside the case. The layout is unusual with a rare instance of an ISO layout having what is known as a "bigass" large Return key and the very strange variation of the german letter "ß" on the stepped caps lock key.
The PCB reads "DAH YANG" and "CHIEH TSU" at the bottom. It is possible this is one of many instances where this company goes back and forth on how to spell its own name (Unitech or Unitek). There also seems to be a pattern (at least in the past) of Unitek consistently using two different OEMs for different switches implementations like Dah Yang for Cherry MX implementations, and Nan Tan Computer Co. (NTC) for Alps. Notice that the badge at the top right on the case is missing, there is no indication of the branding anywhere else on or inside the case.
There are four known variations of this keyboard.
